Unhappy results after BBK LT and O/R x pipe

Hey guys, I'm new here. I picked up a bone stock 95 mustang with 105k miles about 2 weeks ago. I put a BBK cold air intake on it a couple days ago, and then I installed the BBK 1 5/8th's long tubes with a BBK o/r x pipe yesterday. The car actually felt pretty strong when I first got it, for a bone stock car. After I put the intake on I raced my friends 95 which has a BBK cold air intake, trickflow trackheat intake manifold, BBK pullies, BBK shorties, BBK o/r h pipe, and borla cat-back. He beat me by about 2 1/2-3 cars from about 30-100. I raced him yesterday after doing the longtube and x pipe install, and only pulled about 1 car more than before. I was expecting to beat him after the longtube and x pipe install. The car feels like it has a little more mid range power but nothing more up top. The headers with the catless x pipe should gain at least 40hp right? Is the stock catback holding the headers and x pipe back from exploiting their true pontential? Should I get a tune? Help me out guys. Thanks

you should finish the exhaust yes but get some gears because those are the best bang for the buck ever upgrade! u wont get 40hp out of that maybe 20-30 gears wont add hp nor tq but damn they help out in 0-60 and 1/4 a ton i recommend 3.73 for stick and 4.10 for auto since they are all naturally geared higher dont forget suspension yeah its cool to have tons on hp but doesnt help when your not putting it to the ground and floating

The exhaust isn't very restrictive in those cars at all... All your power is to be found in the heads and intake manifolds

Your best bet is to go with some gears.. I put 3.73's in my 95 Gt auto and they are just right for me... But I also do a good bit of highway driving....

Or just save your money up and do a H/C/I swap....

This summer im going to throw some afr 185's and a new MAF/injectors and a larger cam in mine

Don't expect large gains from anything until you upgrade those heads Trust me... i've done them all and i'm still running stock heads

I'd say out of my list the best mods are the shift kit and the gears....

Thanks for the insight guys. Yea, I'm doing 3.73's or 3.90's next with posi, clutch, lightweight flywheel, and alum. driveshaft. That should make a huge difference, especially with the gears. I'll Probably drop an intake manifold on it after that. I was expecting the longtubes and catless x pipe to do a lot more than it did. Especially considering the car has 105k miles on the original cats...oh well.
