Default Rebuild the AODE or New AODE?

My 95 gt with 58k has pretty much lost its over drive gear in the AODE. After a fluid and filter change the problem has not changed. It is clear that the AODE is done for. Should i have a shop rebuild it, or purchase a new AODE, perhaps off of ebay, and install it myself. How difficult will this swap be, i've never tackled one before. Also, the paint on the car is not in the greatest condition, while the interior is mint. If i were to give the car a new paint job as well as a new transmission, would it be worth my investment? Basically, what are your estimates of the car's value with a new tranny and show qaulity paint job (haha i give myself too much credit) with 58k.

It is only worth it if you value your car more than you do your wife, girlfriend or best firends

It is never worth the VALUE of the car, you end up spending more and more, so it is entirely up to you.

The AODE can be rebuilt, it is probably only the OD bands, BUT it might need a complete overhaul, that should run like $700 to $1,200, depending on shop, rebuilt kit needed..anything broke? etc.

Or..get an already rebuilt AODE..can buy as cheap as $700, seen them in the web somewhere, just a matter of a few searches.

Removal and install is pretty easy...remove shifter.. drop the driveshaft, drop the exhaust, trans mount, trans. Difficult part is removing the starter and bellhousing bolts (some). 2 hands can do it in a couple of hours using jackstands.

Now the paint, again depends on how bad is the damage. I know some early SN95s had crappy paint, some cracked severly at the top, hood, and side panels.
If that is the case, paint has to be sanded away, re-primed and repainted. A complete repaint job...cost? depends on the paint, shop..etc.
From a low of $1,300 to $3,000 ...of course you can go higher

The paint isn't bad, only a bit faded. Between my father and myself we've painted several show winning cars, so it would be more a matter of time than money. I'm going to put the car on ebay without a paint job, i had the tranny fixed this past week.
