Exclamation Help! Cannot get Fog lights on 1995 Mustang GT to work.

Yeah everyone. I just bought a 95 gt convertible. My first Mustang. The fog lights don't work. Everything else works and I checked the fuse. The light that is suppost to go on to let you know there on isn't lit either. Any ideas as to what the problem is?

ANY HELP WOULD be greatLY APPRECIATED!

Default check the correct fuse?

Did you check the right fuse in the box in the engine compartment? Do your headlights work? Now if your headlights don't work reason being the headlight switch and blinker switch, the fogs won't work b/c they work off your headlights. Now if the headlights work, check that fuse again. I have a 95 gt and the same thing happened when I shorted the fuse out somehow by using the horn while the foglights were on. Check your horn, somehow they are connected, and if both horn and f-lights don't work then its a the fuse. Long story short it was a fuse for me. Good Luck.

The '94 GTs have an engineering defect that Ford never recalled due to bad seals around the lenses, your fog lamps are probably broken or burnt out, if you drive in the rain or wet streets or they will stop working.

The fog lamps on the '94 & '95 GTs are cosmetic only unless you replace them with a 3rd party fog lamp kit, mine is one of the only one around in my location that are still functional.

Default fog light trouble

If your fuse checks out and the bulbs look okay, then you will want to check out the wiring connectors to the foglights. The connectors have wires that are bent at 90 degrees which seem to short out. Ford actually has a replacement part for this (MOTORCRAFT Part # WPT122) - fog light wiring pigtail. The cheapest place I found was RockAuto.com here: Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto for about $15 per light (ouch).

A screenshot of the connector is attached. In my case everything else was working and I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting voltage to the lamps. I wiggled the wiring right where they connect to the lights, twisting them around and then got voltage - this was by pure luck btw.

Keep in mind, the Mustang headlight switch is the power source for the fog lights and that could keep you from having power at all. The headlight switches and the connecting harnesses very often go bad as well - (melting on connector) - something else to keep in mind. I went ahead and wired direct to my convertible top switch to avoid this prob. - the how to is listed in the tech section of this site.

Hope this helps.

it could just be the hot wire to your fog light switch is shorted. I would check that.

I just bought a 95 GT, and I have the same issue. Head, tail, hazzard, turnsignals and brake lights all work perfect. Fog lights will not turn on, and the little light on the switch next to the e-brake doesnt light up either when I flip the switch. Im planning on going through all the troubleshooting steps tomorrow. I will report what I find tomorrow night.

some simple things to check. are your trying to run fog lights with he headlights off? foglights will not work unless headlights are on. are your high beams on when you are trying to operate the foglights? the foglights will not work with highbeams, only operates when lowbeams are on. swap the fog lamp relay with a relay the exact same(make sure there the same). check the bumps, they both may be out. hope this helps ya

If I remember correctly both lights have to work. If one don't work do to whatever reason the other will not work. The rocker light will not come on if the lights are not on and working and the headlights have to be on. It stinks they don't work when just the running lights are on.
Out of the 18 years I had my mustang they probably worked 3 years on and off ..
Easy mod to fix I just haven't got around to it.

there's also a relay for the fog lights under the hood driver side / black box - the switch inside controls the relay / the relay supply's the power.
I changed mine for a set of Hella driving lights and used the stock switch and relay - big difference for a 100.00$ upgrade
Hope this helps

I fixed my fog lights. Turned out to be the switch was bad. I called Ford to see how much for a new switch. $75.00

Yeah!... So I took it apart and it was missing a spring that pushes a metal piece into the contacts to make contacts with the contacts. I fixed my switch with the spring that is in a "Bic" clicky pen. Yeah, you know, an ordinnary everyday pen. I think mine was blue but I am sure a black pen would work just as good.

I also did the MOD at the link below to make my fog lights work without the headlights having to be on.

Might be just me, but make the car FAST then worry about the fog lamps Id rather mod the holes for the fog lamps with some tubing and cool the brakes !!
