Default Automatic transmission?

I am looking to change out my stock 5-speed to an automatic in my 94 gt. Is there a stock automatic transmission from another vehicle that will work and support any upgrades I do later, such as new heads intake and supercharger? I want something I can find used and inexpensive that I can rebuild with some upgrades.

Why? Just curious. Although an automatic is more consistent I think a 5 speed is a lot more fun. Maybe you are sitting in lots of traffic?

Any similar GT with the same engine. Some other components will be different also - computer, possibly rear end gears, maybe the driveshaft and crossmember, etc.

By the time you do that you might be better just outright buying a rebuilt transmission - or consider a donor car. But really, if you are going to do all that why not sell your car and buy an auto?? Might be a lot easier...

ARE YOU CRAZY!!! A built AODE it the chit! Im so sick of people saying "when you gonna dump that auto and get a 5 speed" and I just say to my self "when you grow a brain"

Get a nice built auto with a 3000-3500 stall and leave the 5 speed boys in the dust.

I wouldn't build an AODE. Weak transmission to begin with and not very popular. Ford dropped it after only a couple of years. I would build a 4R70W instead. Stronger sibling of the AODE and taller first and second gear ratios to boot.

There's a guy on eBay that sells awesome remanufactured transmissions. No core charge, low prices, awesome quality. I've bought two from him. I had to call to find out exactly what I needed and he helped me every step of the way. I think he's got a small shop rebuilding them.

I agree, the 4R70W is the better way to go. I went through two Ford AODE's before I finally gave in and bought this Lentech. Money well spent.

OK, I get it. You have an auto and wish you had bought a stick!

Did you even read that I was asking WHY he would want to change? Notice I never said go one way ot the other. We all (should) know a well built auto can usually kill a stick racing - hence "more consistent."

Did you read that I said "But really, if you are going to do all that why not sell your car and buy an auto??"

WAIT! DID I SAY "BUY AN AUTO?" That doesnt sound like "dump that auto" to me! I mentioned this option in case he didnt consider it; sticks, at least around here, seem to sell for more than autos - so he might be able to sell his car, buy a comparable auto AND have $$ left over.

Even so, it doesnt change my opinion!

Again I say:

"Although an automatic is more consistent I think a 5 speed is a lot more fun. "

...unless your in traffic!
