on my 95 my check engine light comes on after a second or so of the car running...sometimes a minute.the other day my car started acting crazy i would start it up and it would idle fine then about 15 seconds later it would rev up to 1500 and stay there for like 2 minutes.aprox a half a second before it reved up the check engine light would blink like 3 on stop 4 on stop in no specific order. went to have it checked at autozone and they said it was just a temporary code.mods that i have done to the car are cai,bbk 70mm throttle body headers and just did a compleate tune up besides the plugs.it also smells like it is running rich sometimes and people have said that they have seen a little blace smoke come form the car when i floor it.no smog pump is connected and it backfires off its ass constantly when deaccelerating

do you have cats? that may be a reason why your car smells. other than that, a backfire when decelerating usually means a lean conditon. i would clean the maf and put an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to complement the air intake mods you have. bump up the pressure about 2 psi. probably wouldnt hurt either to check tp voltage. set it to just under 1 volt with key on engine off. .9 - 1 volt.
