Hey I have a 95 302 with 132000 miles on her. Now I was wondering what you guys think. Should I go with a 302 or 351w. Now if I got with the 302 Im going to do a TFS power package board .40 over. If I go with the 351w board .30 over. Now I was wondering what your opion is.
Now I have long tube headers on my 302 now if i go with a 351w will I have to change them?
Thanks

If you go 351 you're going to look at a lot of extra costs. You're going to look at a new lower intake manifold, you could go for a dropped front k-member to help with hood clearances, but most likely youll still need a new hood. Most likely you will need to motor mounts. Also you'll need a new oil pan. From what i've seen bbk shorty swap headers will work, but youll still have clearance issues with the steering shaft. All that being said you're looking at a good 1k for just the swap....
So if i were you, this is personally what i'm doing... I'm having Jay Allen from http://www.camshaftinnovations.com/ put me together a setup. The guy is extremely knowledgable, he does custom ground camshafts, but also does a lot of aftermarket parts. He is currently offering canfield 170's/195's for 1295... That is included the CORRECTLY upgraded springs required to turn whatever rpm's you're looking to turn for your project.
I'm going to have him put me together a 347 stroker kit with some of his canfield heads, and one of his custom ground cams.
If you head over to http://sbftech.com you can learn A TON.... about what these motors are capable of. Jay currently has a very similar setup as i described putting 420 rwhp to the ground and has run high 10's in a 3100 lb car....
Definately give him a call to learn anything youd like to know

I'm in the same boat,I've got a 351w available, and the 302 in the car is good-but dropped a lifter/chewed the cam.I'm going with new heads/cam/intake on the 302. Because mine will be a 95%street car,I want the total package, hp/tq/ handling/economy.The 351 swap takes more than I want to do and is heavier, not considering the extra costs and headaches. At best, aluminium heads and battery to trunk would make F/R balance the same.Staying with the 302 I can do the same things and get closer to 50/50 weight, get good(maybe not awsome)power, and reduce total weight. That's my 2 penniies worth

hey what for heads cam intake our you going with I was thinking the trickflow package. I am debating if I keep the 302 go low compression so I can KB superchage it. The trickflow package a supercharger should give 400hp at the wheel easy

I already had pulleys, off road H-pipe,CAI,when I found out I needed a cam I got an F303(I liked the sound of the description, don't know a thing about cams),Research led me to AFR 185 heads, and the stock 94-95 Cobra intake flows like the GT-40,that's what I'm gonna use-along with the stock Cobra t/b(65mm),injectors(24#),and Cobra computer--Heads?60cc chamber will be same as stock-9.2:1 C/R,was thinking of 58cc to get a little more(9.47:1) ,a better flowing header and 3.55 gears.Top it off with a Bullit suspension(1"lower and stiffer) and Cobra brakes.Put 17X9 with 275/40 tire on front,17x10.5 with 315/35 on rear, call it done and go have fun.
No S/C or NO2 in the plans. The short block has 120K on it,shows almost no wear. When it wears out,may get a CHP 331 short block,re use all the above and upgrade to gigger MAF,TB,and injectors-and call it done again

"Research led me to AFR 185 heads"
in the last post
and a lot of reading and questions on this (these) forums
I meant AFR165 heads-sorry
Also already have 2 chamber Flowmasters on the car,I love the sound. This clip has the F303 cam,and the exhaust tone mine had.So I think this is a lot like the sound I'll end up with, but w/o the S/C whine

If you are using this as a street driven vehicle then you don't want to really bore over more than .10 If you do go over .10 for a street vehicle, it will shorten the life of the engine. this goes for a 302 and 351.
Mine'll be a 98% street car-why I'm going a little "tamer"--but still wanna have a ton of fun

If you're stuck between an old 302 or a new 351, put in a 347 or 331 stroker kit on the 302. With the new crank, rods, pistons, a slight overbore, mild cam and a bit of valve work, you'll have a kickass setup. That will give you about 300 hp and a great foundation for building up the engine in the future. The cost is reasonable and you won't have any of the problems with squeezing the 351 in there.
It worked for me. I've got about 5000 miles on the 347 now and can beat up most guys on the road... and that's without new heads or an intake.
