Default 351W crank in my block

Ok its been a while since I have been here. Me and a buddy got a 351W from high school a few years back and I finally have a place with a garage at college so I want to get started rebuilding my motor. Its a 95 with 145K on the 5.0. I am a poor college student so I want to do it right but low budget. I am wanting to take the crank out of the 351 and put it in my 302. Is it the same crank that comes with the 347 stroke kits? If this is possible then boring .040" over, turn down the crank, porting and some other tricks my buddy has should get me the power I want for reasonable cheaper.

Other wise all I can afford right now is to get the bore and clean and we all want more horsepower.

Keep in mind right now I am only aiming at the block and below I havent gotten to the intake/head parts. So i know its not going to be cheap with those but I want to stay cheap on the bottom end.

Oh yeah we arent sure on the year of the 351 but it was EFI. The 351 was complete except the upper intake and the lower was cracked. The rest of it was perfect.

No production 351W crank will physically fit in any production 302 block. The main journals are one-half-inch larger and the counterweights are too far out.

That is the answer I was looking for. Sort of not the one I wanted but clear that I cant do it. Next on the list...How easy is the 351W fitted into the SN95? I am sure its on the posts but my team lost today so thats kind of difficult. My main concern is to keep this a cheap project but still impressive. I am assuming I need a new tranny and intake.

yes a new intake, you will not need a new tranny-just a new bellhousing. If you have a t-5 though go easy on it with the 351.I have been through 3 of them within the last six months .I also plan on putting a 351 in my 95 and all i belive you need is the cobra r style swap headers and a bell housing and in your case a new intake.

My T5 has seen better days. When i got it there was a problem with the 2-3 syncro. I can get by because I drove it for a while because I was used to it. I havent driven it regularly in over 15 months. It was in my agenda to rebuild it. So I am assuming it wont hold the new power after a rebuild. Since this is a low dollar project were there any factory trannys that could be picked up at a junkyard that could handle it?

The guy that is helping me with this has a early 90's camaro with 410 hp so I just want to make him smile when its done. I would love to go all out but I am in college in Iowa so I cant drive it year round and I am low on money so what does anyone thing would be more worth my time. 302 vs 351?

I have very little time since I have school and 2 jobs plus I have been working on remodling a house.

302 and 351W have the same bellhousing bolt pattern so there is no need to replace the bellhousing.

yeah and so was the Cobra R. So I know it can be done. What tranny did they run? I was hoping that there was a tranny out of some older car/truck that could handle the power that I could get from a junk yard and put in there since the T5 is only supposed to handle around 300+/-50 hp right?

I know the gears wouldnt be too desireable out of a truck but then I was hoping there would be aftermarket gears I could interchange.

The early Saleen S-351s and the '95 Cobra Rs had a TREMEC TR-3550 transmission.
