Angry Over Heating.

This is driving me NUTTS ! I'm going down the road and my temp. gauge starts to climb..fast. It gets to almost out of the "normal" range and it stops. Then it will drop down again. It will stay at one end or the other for a few minutes.I have put a new 180 thermastat in it and a new rad. cap. Changed the anti-freeze.Water pump seems to be working ok.It just has me stumped ! Sumetimes I smell alittle anti-freeze and see alittle white smoke but then it goes away. If it were a busted head gasket or a cracked head it would smoke and smell all the time, but this doesn't. I have a fluidyne alum. heavy duty rad. Edelbrock 202 alum heads. It's a '95 gt, the timing is at 14 degrees. Any help would be great ! Thanks.

When you changed the antifreeze did you get all the air out? Air bubbles will cause the temp gauge to spike.

I had the same problem for a long time, it would climb way up, almost to the red, then shoot down, really fast. Turned out to be a clogged radiator. Other possibilities include heater core (If it only heats up with heat on), bad water pump. Good luck!

I had a similar problem with my 95 GT Conv. Ford actuallu had a recall of the 94/95 due to a faulty Fan Circuit Breaker. Now my temp stays pretty much in the O to R range of NORMAL. That and some Redline Water Wetter. Is you fan even coming on? Hope this helps.

i have the same problem with mine. the temp will shoot way up almost over heat but then go down and then up and down it's all weird.
i changed everything too. i got new water pump, flushed out radiator,
no idea what it is. but when i have my heater on, it runs hella cool.

if your losing any water it may be a small radiator leak... looking at the condenser for wet spots can sometimes help diagnose problems. check all of your sensors for resistance just to double check the computer is getting the correct readings.... try a coolant system flush, dont just flush the radiator do the system....
