Thats what I am thinking, but anyoen else know abotu the speed limiter. I am curious how someone could just go cap the speed cheaply because as I posted above, I think that requires chip burning in the 5.0's

Maybe he lied, figuring that he could figure out if you drive fast or not when you came back and went "It didnt work, I hit 120 today."

Speed limiter can only be controlled by a chip in these cars. You'd need to have a custom chip burnt and a rev or electronic speed limiter put in place. A chip like this routinely costs around $350. This usually entails a dyno tune as well. Perhaps he's put a rev limiter on it using an MSD box? Is your car an auto or 5 speed? If its an auto and it shifts well bellow the red line, 1000 or 2000rpms before, he may have placed a rev limiter on it. If its a 5 speed and the revs hit a point and then bounce, before the red line of course, then he may have also placed a limiter on it. Look under the hood. If it has a red box marked MSD ignition, he may have gotten you that way. That will not only limit your top speed but also how quickly you may accelerate.

That's not accurate, no stock auto tranny shifts anywhere near that close to redline, if your does, you better get it checked out because something's wrong there.

Ehhh. My 5.0 had a red line at 5800 or so on the factory tack. I meant a shift of say 4000,3500 at WOT. Mine would routinely shift at 5000-5400rpms. What kind of 5.0 do you have that has a redline of 7k. Sure, thats the top of the redzone. Sorry I was misunderstood.

Ah, 5000-5400 makes a lot more sense. I have a 95, redline starts at 6000 and goes to 7000.
