It has 78,000 miles. Completely stock 5.0. AODE tranny.
So here are the problems that I'm having with it:
1) LACK OF POWER! The thing will not chirp the tires at all. Out of curiousity, I decided to power brake it and it just sat there and revved, wouldn't spin the tires. I have to push the go pedal down between 1/4 and 1/2 way just so it'll get up to speed at a decent rate.
Now, what could be causing this? The plugs, plug wires, cap n' rotor, coil are all new. The timing is set at 10* BTDC. This engine is clean, looks brand new. Any ideas?
2) The shifter, seems to have alot of play in it. When I have it in gear, I can movie it back and forth about 1/16th of an inch. When I put it in D I have to move it up a little to get it to "lock" so the shifter doesn't move.
A stock 95 5.0 with an automatic is not going to chirp the tires, thats no surprise. Your making 215HP/288LB Torque. If you want to chirp the tires with an automatic get a shift kit and a handheld tuner to up the shift pressure. As for lack of power, dont expect too much out of a stock 5.0 SN95 unless you modify it. Have you changed the fuel filter? Run a bottle of Techron fuel injector cleaner. Have you cleaned the MAF? Air filter? Clean the throttle body?
Welcome to the AODE 95 GT club.
My son got his from our relative and your right it is a dog.
If you want to make it go get ready to spend some money.
Shift kit is a must,Trans -go makes a good one.
4.10 gears will wake that car up,Gt-40 intake helps too.
Also BBK headers and BBK throttle body. That will shave almost 1 second of your E.T. . We are getting ready to get aloy heads soon.
Our mileage went up as well. Which is not very good to begin with,LOL!!!
Needless to say start wrenching and get er done!!
I have a 1994 Gt with AODE and yep I tried the same thing - same response. 4.10 gears, Transgo or ( Fairbanks shift kit and F60 torque convertor which I have provided more response). Unsure about the play in the shifter? It's gonna be hard to spin those wheels with stock gears, tranny and engine. " have you tried bald tires on a wet road? Just kiddin

OK ... so everybody says yeah, no surprise as far as not getting a chirp.
Do you think this guy meant off the line? Or while moving already?
I have a 95 GT AOD Vert. with 84k ... If I stomp on it from the line, they will spin like hell. My car is stock as far as I know ( i bought it only a few months ago)
Can you give us an example of how slow? What exactly are you comparing the speed to?
It's a very real possibility that what's causing the car to drag its a** is the tranny. Its an old car with a lot of miles, and the AODE is a slush box to begin with.
Slow, as in my dads 4.7L Dodge Dakota 4x4 will put you into the seat and tear up the pavement. As in my buddies 180,000 mile 6 cylinder Windstar mini-van has more pick-up than my 5.0L V8 Mustang.
Hey do you still have the stock Cat. converters on it. I know because in my Dads 88 F150 when his cat got clogged up it got shitty gas milage. ( I know they dint get that good to begin with but I mean horible) and it dint seem to have all its power. How still is Indiana about smog? b/c if they arnt that bad knock out the guts in the cat. converter and it might wae up your car. Or jsut get a new cat put in it

I would also check the initial ignition timing. I bought my car and I found the timing was off, way off. It was firing at 8* after top dead center. It was a crazy increase in power when i changed the timing.
