Question Would you run 4.11 gears in a 1995 Mustang GT?

I'm currently running 3.73's. I take my car to the dragstrip every now and then. I was talking to one of my buddies and he suggested moving up to 4.11's ,because the SN95's weigh a little more than the foxbody cars. I see his point but hate to loose alot of gas mileage. So what do you guys think?

Well in my S197 I went to a 4.10 (4.11 is a GM Gear) and I actually improved my average MPG by about .5. Though at 70mph on the interstate I lost a whopping 1MPG. I don't drive much on the interstate and spend most f my drive to wor everyday in 5th gear between 45-60mph.

I think that since the 2V 4.6 has a shorter RPM range, I would stick wih the 3.73s unless you start going to the track more often.

i got 4:10 gears in my 95 cobra i love them off the start, but i'm not much of a highway driver either, my brother had a 3:73 ratio in his 92 lx and he wished he would of went with the 4:10's instead.

I have an auto 94, 4.10's made a serious difference. The doey box is being addressed this week. As good as gears are I suspect once I've rebuilt the box with Fairbanks shift kit, F60 2500 torque convertor and other goodies it will provide hellacious launches. If you have a manual go with 3.73's. I'll let you know what the outcome is when I get the car back from the shop

If you have an Auto go for the 4.10's. You will actually see better fuel mileage in town driving due too the torque multiplication. However you will loose mileage on
Highway use. In town we went from 14 mpg to 16 mpg. Highway will probably be
around 20mpg at 65mph. Also you will like the accelleration improvement.

does anyone know how much quicker the 0-60 time is by replacing the gears? i have a v6 s197 mustang and i was just wondering how much the acceleration would increase if i replaced my stock gears with 3.55s or 3.73s

I have 3:73's in 93 lx and i love them. they make the car quicker as far as light to light races, but on the highway i think the rpm's are a bit higher than when i had my stock rear end.

4.10s are great for tourqe but if u are going to drive it more than to the track u should stay with the 3.73 gear. with the 4.10 u will eat gas and will not be able to drive it on the highway the rpm's will be too high.

oh yea your trap speed at the track will go down with the 4.10s. the 3.73 is the best all around gear
