I read the beginner guide for mods....all the mods sound good, but will I still be able to pass C.A smog??? I would love to gain all the pony's I can get, but I still have to keep SMOG in mind. If anybody been down this road, tips would be helpful.
If you use C.A.R.B. certified parts, and take the test with a stock tune, you should be OK. Once you pass the test, you can bump the timing back up etc.

It should still pass with a bunch of speed parts, but you want the timing,TPS setting, and operating temperature to be stock - and to use 87 or no more than 89 octane fuel. This holds true with a stock engine, as well.

that is the key. your timing can range from 8-12 degrees inital and still pass the inspection. also secondary air (aka smog pump) can be your friend when it comes to smog.
