What would give me a somewhat rich exhaust smell on the passenger side of the engine (hood up) close to fire wall? I don't have this smell at the rear of the car exhaust. The car runs fine.
You prob have a exhaust leak causing the oxygen sensor to make that side a little rich giving a rich fuel smell, so fix the leak you should never smell exhaust under any hood. Also clean out your MAF element the 94's are notorious for fuel problems because of a dirty MAF. You can use electric parts cleaner.
Thanks, i don't seem to have any exhaust leaks from what i can see or hear. Is there anything with the EGR valve that could cause this? I will also look at the MAF.
I've suggested this before, if you have something resembling a smoke machine, put it under the car and see where the smoke gets blown away. (a couple chain smokers may work too). If its rich fuel, check for a fuel leak near the injectors. Do you still have your cats? If they are clogged, they may smell like eggs (sulfur)
It is a rich exhaust smell. It's not noticable unless i've got my face close to the engine/passenger side exhaust mainfold. It does not smell like fuel at all. I still have stock cats and NO rotten egg smell.
You're sure it's not leaking between the header and the H-pipe? It really sounds like this is what's happening.
It could be the EGR system.
Or, it might be the smog pump system, although there's a check valve to keep exhaust from going upstream.
Has the car had any work done on it lately, like a clutch or something?

They had to remove the H-pipe to pull the transmission and bellhousing.
Try starting the engine, and while it's still cold, feel around with your hands. If there's an exhaust leak, you'll feel it blowing out.
