I have a '94 Convert and was looking at the brochure for the '94 model and saw that Ford offered a removable hard top as an option. I have never heard anything about this, and was wondering if anyone else had. Does anyone know the history? Is it available aftermarket?
From my readings.... the hard-top verts are rare... and had to be either made that way, or you remove the existing soft top... ive only heard of the factory ones.. they had a name i believe
The removable hardtop was available only on the 95 Cobra. i don't know the actual production numbers but they are rare...they're less than a 96 Mystic cobra. Like in the 500's. I'm pretty sure they didn't even last through the entire production year. They're definetly trick though.

I got you guys covered. The Convertible Hardtop option, 13T, was listed in the 1994 Mustang option list. It was priced at $1545. However, the top wasnt made available until 1995 when the price was raised to $1825, still option 13T. Here is an excerpt I found.
"The most interesting and unique option on the 1995 Cobra convertible was the removable hardtop. Removing and replacing the top was a two-man operation. The top came with its' own carrier for placing the top when it wasn't installed (note: as we have all seen in the owner's manual and wanted the top, ) on the car. The factory hardtop can not (easily) be retrofitted to other Mustang convertibles. The "A" pillar attachment point is different and there are rear defroster wiring differences as well. The top was originally supposed to be available on the 1994 Mustang convertible, but none were produced. It was listed as an $1825 option. Five hundred were installed on 1995 Cobras; although it was supposed to be a Cobra-only option, several 1995 GTs were sold with the removable hardtop as well."
I called my Ford dealer and asked about this, he said he had heard of them and if they are discontinued, obviously. He had however heard of the parts still being available if you want to weld them together yourself, . Thats all I know about the Removable hardtops, I hope it helps.

I can’t believe no one has made or makes a fiberglass aftermarket hardtop for mustangs yet (like most other verts) If it fit on normal verts it would fit all years of sn95's right
yeah.. it would be good to have... of course to fit it, you would probably have to remove the soft top completely... so you would have to watch the weather carefully... since you cant carry a hardtop with you... it would be either on or off...
Thanks for all the input on this thread. If anyone knows of someone with a hard top, I would like to see some pictures of it, including attaching points, etc.

Have now found 4 of the 8 prototypes produced, they appear to be different from 499 production models Cobra convertibles. The 8 prototypes look like a hartop and the production models look like a convertible model only fiberglass. Let me know if I'm wrong I've only seen pictures of the production models. One of the eight prototypes appears to have been destroyed when trying to make a retractable Sn 95 similar to the old 59 sunliners Ford. That leaves 4 missing, let me know if see one or any of the production model. The Cobra are out there, But how many of the 499 and maybe one show car which Ford toured, makes 500 are unaccountable as yet. Looking for history on cars has been my hobby for years, I will try to find out everything on this remarkable options. Cost was 1825. in 95 and they were only put on black Cobra convertible with saddle interior. From pictures you might think the tops was cloth but they have a non shiny look which gives them away. Saleen converted one (# 95-0118) in association with Mustang Illustrated and gave it away to a reader. The only Saleen Cobra convertible with a removable hardtop ever made.
