synthetic is the best, what kind of high mileage, some think of 80,000 as being high and other think 250,000 miles are high, it really depends on what kind of piston compresion you have, if you are running 10w-30 and it is burning oil then switch to 15w-40, the rule of thumb is if you are burning more than 1qrt of oil on a oil change swith to something thicker

165,000 isnt that much at all you should be able to run 10w-30, but if it burns mroe thatn 1qrt switch to 15-40, but oil companies consider 75,000miles and over as "high mileage" which is a joke, as long as you do basic matinece it shoul last to 180,000miles easily, i know many people who have 200,000, 250,000, 280,000 miles on there cars(mustangs) and all they have done is changed the oil every 3,000 all of them use sythetic too, and they did the yearly tune up

You can keep the ones you have or get some with the longer threads, but chuck the platinums down the hill. Go with copper and you'll be better off. And the 94-up wires are shorter by at least 2 inches, maybe more on some of them.
The oil viscosity you get should depend on the oil pressure you have now. If it's still up there, like over 60 psi, you don't need to go to a thicker oil. The bearings still have decent clearances. If the pressure would be dropping after it warms up, then you switch.

i noticed the same thing that the threads were alot longer, i dont have any problems, i dont know why they add all the threads prob. for striping the threads protection
