Hi everyone I am very very new to the Mustang modification world and know nothing about modifications to mustangs. I am in college right now and am planning to buy a 1994 or 1995 V8 5.0L Mustang next year, and getting rid of my 1995 3.8L V6, and was wondering if someone here could explain to me what all the language means hehe I have heard to get 3.73 gears, well what does that mean? I apologize in advance to those of you who know alot of this stuff!!!

Would it be better to buy a car that's already modified or not? I want to be able to make the car 'mine' and make it very fast and very nice

Anyone that could help, it would be greatly appreciated!!! My email is nikbait@yahoo.com, my name is Tammy Smith and I live in Idaho.

It's better to buy one that's bone stock and modify it yourself. That way you can mod it as you like and you'll know what went into it.
The 3.73:1 ratio ring & pinion replaces the stock ring & pinion (2.73:1 in 5.0 auto, 3.08:1 in 5.0 manual) in the rear differential. This increases torque multiplication to the rear wheels dramatically improving in-gear acceleration. This is a popular early mod even on stock Mustangs because the factory gearing is ridiculously tall to aid fuel economy.

Hey thanks! I keep hearing different ppl say different things regarding the gears I think I will go for a 3.73 gears and have those installed once I get the car I want. And thanks for the advice on getting a car that's not modded, that's what i was thinking, but wasn't sure.

First mod When stock should always be a better Intake Filter. Go with the K&N. 12 more hp. But yea get H-pipe, gut the cats.

Cool

Crank pulley will free up some HP. doing crank and alt pulley have lead to some cooling and charging problems.

I put the trickflow pulleys on my 94 gt, I have absolutely no cooling problems but I did have charging problems. I suggest going with the stock alternator pulley but keep the crank and water pump pulley exchange alive!!

Just make sure if you get 3.73 gears also get some lower control arms!Nothing is worse than a spinning mustang!
I have the ford motorsport pulley kit and I have had no problem with charging.

Default next step

so here it is, i recently picked up a 94 5.0 5spd. i've started doing some beginning mods to it (3:73 gears, hurst shorty shifter). i was kinda of having trouble with what i should work on next. im looking for something fairly easy and reasonably inexpensive. any ideas?

Ford Racing is the best place for straight up info. No offense to all the those here. this is a great place to talk about the results, but face it home is the best place for results at the end of the day.
For straight up horse power gain. Check out Ford Racing for there simple Hi-Flo application. The gain for about 500 dollars is about 75hp with just two items proven for 94-95. This is were you'll get the best for your buck hands down off the start. Exaust for sound and help with power, then 3.73 gears for street,or 4.10 for strip.
After the application (about 1,000 dollars for all)you should be one bad stang in the mid-low 13's.

I don't agree with that. I've talked with them several times, and my Dad is employed by Ford, but they gave up on the pushrod a long time ago. Sure they have the new Z heads, but they're not that great in comparison.

If Ford parts are so great, then why don't you see guys using them in the NMRA? How many Pure street guys are using GT40 heads, Cobra/GT40 intake, throttle bodies, exhaust, etc. My Trick Flow heads have the same port volume as a GT40 head and flow 40cfm more (on a flow bench at Fox Lake Racing)

Their combo for the 5 Liter that they marketed like crazy in the early 90's (E-cam, intake, GT40 heads, throttle body, headers) they quote as making 300hp at the flywheel. I've seen one combo with long tubes make 265 at the wheel. Now compare that to my 190,000 shortblock with Trick Flow heads, Systemax intake and custom cam making at least 330rwhp and I drive it to work everyday.

One thing that I can say is that their quality is top notch.
