Default 1995 Mustang GT Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator

I recently read an article written by someone with a 95 GT. He was advancing the timing to the point of detonation. In an effort to combat the detonation, he installed an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and increased the fuel pressure. He claims that by increasing the fuel pressure, he was able to eliminate the detonation. Is this possible? It seems that you would need to change the fuel injectors, MAF calibration, etc., before you would see any change.

I'm having problems with detonation and I'm looking for solutions.

Increasing the fuel pressure will maximize the injector's capacity, so yes, doing that will help but not so much that a simple twist can remedy all detonation problems. That other owner shouldn't be advancing the timing that much and try to compensate with the fuel, that doesn't add more power over a proper tune.

If you are having detonation problems, try setting the timing to the factory setting of 10 degrees BTDC with the SPOUT out.

If it still pings, try going down a couple more degrees.

Running premium fuel will lessen detonation as well.

Also may want to clean your MAF, replace the fuel filter if it's been a while and run the codes.

Some people run Sea Foam through their intake/fuel/oil to knock out the carbon in the cylinders, use at your own risk if you still run cats.

Default Thank You

Thanks for the tips. It has been a while since I cleaned the MAF and since I live in the desert, I'm sure it needs cleaning more often, I'll start there.

Get ahold of HISSIN50 on either StangNet or Corral - he lives in the desert and is VERY well versed on pinging in that climate.
