So, I finally took the plunge, decided to start aftermarket work on my mustang, and since its now october, and getting cold here in New England I decided to do some minor aesthetic stuff first.
So I hopped on americanmuscle.com since it seems to be relatively popular and has a decent selection, even if they're not always the cheapest.
I ordered:
a set of smoked tail light covers
An 8 inch antenna
A tail light decal
A grille with GT lights
and last, the item of trouble thus far
Smoked Mustang Headlight w/ CCFL Halo (05-09) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!
Received all the items very fast, ordered wed. got fri.
The headlights I received were not smoked in any way. The lenses were clear, and they had a normal reflector in back, so basically they're just OEM style with a halo outside.
Called AM, talked to a customer service rep, she assured me that the headlights I got were smoked and asked me to send her pics. Took pics of them and emailed to her, to which she replied "The smoked headlights we carry actually don't have smoked lenses, and it's the reflector that is smoked."
Called her back to inform her that first of all, the site says specifically that they are tinted lenses, and that the reflector is not tinted. To this she responds, "Oh well in that case you must have gotten a defective pair, we'll send you out some as soon as possible" and gave me return info.
Got a voicemail approx 20 minutes later informing me that the part I got was correct and that a swap was unnecessary.
This time I called and spoke to a sales rep before customer service, and had them confirm that yes, AM had the headlights in stock with a tinted lens.
Spoke with customer service, continued the loop around, and now she asserts that they never had smoked headlights and that it's a typo on their page that they're trying to work out.
So I asked what I would have to do to send these back and get something else and she responded that I'd have to go through the RMA process, wait for them to process the return, re credit my bank, and then place a new order.
She has also informed me that there have been quite a few issues with people calling them back because of this and theyre "working with" everyone to resolve their issues. If AM wants to resolve the issues why dont they try something along the lines of either removing the item from their page (they continue to sell these despite knowing the problem, a real great service plan), or possibly ask the people who received the wrong items if they will accept something along the lines of a can of headlight tint to correct the problem themselves.
All I know is if there isnt a proper resolution offered at some point from the woman I've been dealing with I'm going to box up my order and send the whole thing back, not just the headlights, and not use them again.
