this is strange I was asking about prepainted parts a few weeks back and received no feedback with knowledge of such a thing. Is this something new? and will parts be available for classic Mustangs such as 66 rear valance with exhaust holes?
Yup, pre-painted parts are coming soon! It is a new service we are rolling out in a few days. I am not sure about when or if we will be offering it for classic Mustangs. We are expanding our year range more and more every day on other parts, so we will see.

This is a story about my uncle. The way the story goes, he took his 1971 Chevy Camaro in to get a paint job after completely repairing and restoring it. The whole project took three years of weekend working to do. He was so committed to this car that it was like his second child. (It was more important of course, but we he wouldn't publically admit that) He did every piece of work himself except the paint job simply because he didn't have the tools or a steady enough hand to get a solid paint job done. So he took it to a shop that his friend owned.
Well the friend happened to know how much work he put into it and decided to play a little prank. He told him it'd be about two weeks to get it done just as the standard line. He actually had the project done in about a week, so with his spare time he decided to play a joke. There was a beat up camaro at the junkyard down the street and he went and picked it up for fifty bucks after making an arrangement with the owner to bring it back to him to resell undamaged. He took the thing, fixed up the metal with (Literally) some play-doh, and just smoothed it all out, and then he painted over it in a bright sparkly pink. It was fabulous. As the story goes, that wasn't quite enough so him and his son took out some sharpies and colored Barney on the hood. He swapped the tires from the restored camaro onto the beater. It was phenomenal sounding. He had some pictures, but I don't have any of them available at the moment as none of them where digital pictures. While it was dicey, it looked legit.
So he called my uncle and explained that there was a small incident of a miscommunication with his paint job and he needs to come take a look at it. Time passes my uncle shows up. He had him come into the shop, and pulled the cover off the car, and my uncle apparently stood there shocked for a minute. The story goes that he apparently blanked out for about 2 minutes, then he proceeded to make a fist towards the shop guy (HIS FRIEND) grabbed him by the collar. The shop owner tried to keep his cool and apologize and stuff like that. But my uncle was pissed, and so the shop owner just started busting out laughing, which of course led to more anger. So one of the other guys shouted, “HEY JOHN!” and so he turned to see his beautifully painted red and black ’71 Camaro. The only word in the next minute was “Gotcha *******” Needless to say my uncle was quite pleased with the actual paint job, but this took place 15 years ago so sadly mu uncle had doesn’t have this camaro anymore as it got destroyed in a drag racing accident. Still, a good family story for the few car freaks of us in the family.

So a few weeks ago my friend got rear-ended in his 97 Honda Civic (About as ricery as u can get. Fart can, body kit, Carbon Fiber hood, Motor work. EVERYTHING) Needless to say it was totaled, I mean anything biger than a bicycle would do that, . So when he got his Insurance money he quickly went out looking for Camaro "SS"s. Well I had bought my 94 GT just months earlier, and Ive always been a HUGE mustang fan! Well after taking him out and showing him what it would do, A few donuts, burnouts, and high speed runs, I converted him! His Mom,Dad, and Grandfathers all had Camaros. So of course he was a hardcore Chevy guy. But now he is the owner of 97 Mustang GT! He loves it and we are constantly compeating!

I purchased a brand new blue Z28. Two days later I was washing it and popped the hatch to dry the bottom of the wing and noticed the underside wasn't painted. It was a dull primer color. I called the dealer and told them I needed to bring the car back so they could swap the wing they told me they couldn't and would have to paint the wing. Day 4: I went to pick the car up they had painted the wing the wrong color, sort of a teal and tried to pass it off. Day 5: The wing was the correct color but it was full of runs, on the top and bottom. Day 6: When I called to check the status I was told it was in the paint booth. I rushed over to find my car taped off from the doors forward w/ fresh paint on the hatch, both quarter panels, bumper and wing. If there was ever a time to yell at everyone in sight, this was it. My week old car was now TOTALED in my eyes. After several lengthy discussions with everyone at the dealer I ended up getting another car delivered to my house on a hauler. Worst dealership experience ever. Long story short, a prepainted replacement part would have gone a long way in this situation.

LOL, we've had the idea for it a MUCH longer time then that...its been a long, carefully planned, and carefully thought out process. Actually even had the paint booth installed way before that post.

Matt M with is great story about unexpected paint contaminants…
“I purchased some Xenon Quarter Window Scoops from AM a few months back. After receiving the package in the mail, i rushed over to the paint shop (i will not post what shop, but let’s just say that they are a very HUGE business) to get them painted. After waiting a WEEK for them to get painted, they were finally done. I went to go pick the scoops up and i realized all the defects the paint had. There was orange peel, little chunks of black stuff (i don’t know what it is) dust, and best one yet, a FLY LEG! Yes, a fly leg. I talked to the manager to see if they would fix it and he said “We only cover if the paint matches or not” . For my loss, they matched.”
Hysterical Matt! Thanks for the laugh.
And thanks to everyone who shared their painted parts tales of woe. We look forward to hearing more positive stories as more of our pre-painted parts get out on the road where they belong.
