I know the Sharker 1000 has more guts then the 500 but is it really worth the extra bucks compared to the Shaker 500 thats include in the GT Prem?
I have a 2007 GT auto. I am considering doing something crazy and swapping her out for 2008 GT stick.
In my 07 I have a Shaker 1000, it great and all but at $1300 bucks for that option I was thinking og maybe spending that n Chome wheels or something else this time.
Sounds like you've already made your decision.
I would have been fine with the 500, as I rarely use the stereo, and would have rather used the extra money for mods. Same thing with the wheels, I would have preferred 17" Bullitts, but didn't want to have the dealer change them and have the car not match the equipment listed on the window sticker when I
eventually sell it.
You can buy a nice set of wheels for the money, although having the Shaker 1000 may be a selling point later, as many people want it. It's your car, your priorities are what's important in the end.

I agree with ducfoot....I totally happy with my Shaker 500...I rarely listen to it also, unless I'm going on a long trip with it.....but when I do listen to it, the sound is great...I just prefer listening to the sound of my car...LOL....use the extra money on mods!!

Guy's, Same happen here. When I bought the car, it had the Shaker 1000 in it. It was not an option I was considering. Now I had it awhile it s great sound system and one of the best I have ever heard for a factory install. I do listen to the stereo a lot and I really have not heard the 500 version.
The other thing is, when I look at the different cars available out there today, even Shelby's GT and 500, the dealers are not even putting the 1000 in them.
So, thats why I asked the question, if I get a 500 the next time around, will the car be less desirable for resell. Also if you have one, it sound like your satisfied. Also, I think that 500, being already an upgrade when you get the GT prem, it must be fine.
I guess I am looking to justify spending the money on the 18" Alums...rather then the 1000
You'll be fine with the 500...I don't think it would affect the resale very much....I mean, unless you like alot of boom in your music, the 500 is great...bass sounds good, speakers sound good, clear sound.....get the wheels....I ordered my from the factory with the 500, that's all the more I needed...I don't think it would be worth the extra money for the 1000...Good luck in whatever you decide!!!

I like your advise. I am going to try and go to a dealer by me today. Drive another stick and see if the Shaker 500 is in that car as well. This way I can check ot both at the same time.
$1300. is alot of money if when you go to sell the car , no one really cares. THey are looking at the car, not the stereo.
Its nice if you can have both, but if not, I may go for the wheels this time around.
Dezeldawg is correct, the most it would add to resale is maybe $200, and some would prefer not to have it taking up trunk space (me). It wouldn't matter to a dealer if you traded it in, and probably wouldn't be a dealbreaker to a private party.
I had a choice of two otherwise identical cars, Torch red with 500 or Vista Blue with 1000, bought the car because I loved the color but b**ched about paying for an expensive option I didn't want, and I think the 500 sounds great.
Get the wheels, you'll be glad you did.

I'm thinking the same way. People buying this kind of car are not walking away because of the sound system. I am going to listen to the 500 Shaker just because.. If I did't have a 1000 today, it would not have even been something I would have considered, like you said, only if the car I wanted had it in there already. Just like what happen to me the first time.
I don't have a shaker. I have the basic single disk, 4 speaker system and it sounds great to me! But my ears are 50 years old. Younger people would prob prefer the shaker systems..

Good point. I am your age but I enjoy the sound of a good stereo. The difference we are discussing is the GT Prem already comes with a 6 disk, 6 speaker Shaker 500 system included. We are talking about the value of adding a super Shaker 1000 system into the car which is $1300 more. I have one now that came with my GT but when I order my new 2008 GT, I can going with the Shaker 500 that comes with a GT Prem.
thanks for your feedback, enjoy the car and the tunes!!
its my understanding, the diff. between the 500 and the 1000 is 2 more subwoofers? I got this from Jon in an acoustics forum, maybe will help?
Jon: Shaker 500 is considered to be an 8 speaker system, 1000 is the same, but adds two subwoofers in the rear of the car. If you're happy with the factory stuff and you like sticking to that, a dealer could probably upgrade your current system to Shaker 1000 specification, but I'm not sure.
A better option is a self powered unit such as the Infinity Basslink. It puts out sufficient bass for a stock system and is relatively small, SQ is good as well.
The Shaker 500 in itself, I think (NOT sure, though) contains either 7" or 8" midbass drivers up front, with an additional 3" midrange driver (possibly a coaxial). You won't really benefit as much from upgrades there unless you plan to change out the factory head unit and amplifiers.
Of course, your last option is to try to add a subwoofer, box, and amplifier. It's going to be a squeeze in the trunk of the car, but you can fit a healthy 10" in there. Something along the lines of an Image Dynamics IDQ would be up your alley, sufficient output, excellent sound quality, small enclosure requirement, and doesn't need a ton of power.

Save the money for mods. You can add a lot of hp for $1300
