I didn't have MDF availiable so i used some good 3/4 inch ply wood. how will this affect the sound.

the boxes are 11" all the way around, i have a 10" square sub. with the internal volume at .44cuf w/o the sub (legacy LW10RDS junk i know...) what size port should i use to get the lowest frequency out of the box?

the sub says it goes down to 38Hz.

Ported boxes have larger space requirements. Your box is pretty small, you are best off sealed. Yes typically ported boxes are deeper but they are also larger. Hate to tell you but ply wood won't do the job. It may work for a little while but I would strongly advise against it. If MDF is not available 3/4" Particle board will be fine. You will not be able to hear the difference. Some top brand woofers will destroy particle board boxes but I doubt you will have to worry about it.

If you have access to fiberglass resin, I would recommend glassing the plywood or you will not get the same quality of sound or durability of MDF. Definately get yourself some MDF when you get a chance and rebuild the box, you already have the measurements I assume.

i just can't afford MDF right now. i got the 3/4" plywood for free.

now i have a question about using fiberglass.

do i use it on the inside, outside or both.

and sould i go a little heavy on the resin so the wood will absorb it more.

and sould i use fiberglass sheets or use it loose.

Regardless of what you build the box out of, .44 cuft of internal air space is too small. If you are trying to keep it simple, go with a box that is 12.5" all around. That will give you .77 cuft and will make huge difference over .44. Keep it sealed at that size also. If you don't have any specs on that sub, keep it sealed, but I wouldn't go any larger than 1.0 cuft. After that you will lose the true sound and it will just get "muddy". Too small and it will just sound like @$$.

If cost is a issue just use 3/4" particle board and start over. You can build and carpet it for cheap. There is no guarantee that plywood wont develop a rattle under the fiberglass resin. I would not waste my time and $ fiberglassing plywood.

i've got the box in now. i glued it together with gorilla glue and i used an air nailer to put finishing nails in it. I sealed up the inside with caulking and i smoothed the entire outside and filled any minor imperfections. I ported it with a 1-1/2" plastic electrical conduit ender. (which i also gorilla glued in.) it sounds good. im only putting 275Watts to it. Thats all i can do per channel. i don't want to bridge it becouse each channel has its own seperate gain. i want the amp to last.


i still don't have any fabric on it.

wheres a good place to look for some automotive type fabric?

what is the best way to put it on the box without noticable seems?

Look for Indoor\outdoor Carpet that is the same type as the floor in your car. Sometimes you can find it at Walmart or Home Depot but you may need a upholstery\crafts store. Just glue it on with some spray adhesive. Wrapping the box and matching up the seams is easy with carpet.
