Default Help in identifying audio system

Hi,
My 18 year old has a 1998 mustang. There is a cassette DIN unit and a separate DIN CD player under it. We already replaced the speakers, there were 4 FULL range 5x7's.

We have a new head unit but cannot get the old one out - I tried the coat hanger trick but a local shop said we bent the tabs and now they need to break the front panel to get it out.... any ideas?

Also, the installer said there was a separate amp, I thought only the MACH system had a separate amp. Can this system have a separate amp as well? And if so, where would it be located?

Thanks for your help.

well for starters, do you have the Mach460 option? if you do, you have 3 amps. 1 under the CD player and 2 in the trunk.

if you dont have the Mach460, and you are positive it would have an amp, it would probably be located under the CD player as well.

as for removing the existing headunit, go to autozone, kragen, or any car audio shop and pick up the ford radio removal tools. will make it a piece of cake to remove the radio, and they are less than $5

Thanks for the help on the tool.

I have no idea if he has the MACH option - nothing that says MACH on the electronics and no tweeters. I would have thought it was just a powered head unit, but when we get it out I guess I'll find out pretty quick if there is an amp. I was hoping to preorder the connectors but I guess I'll wait until we see what it is.
Thanks again,
TedT
