Default cool idea for an engine start

okay so here is a unique question for you guys.

i have a 98 mustang, which everyone knows has two single din slots. i bought a 03 bezel off ebay to install my double din radio (alpine w200). so the bezel came with those three buttons on the bottom which are rear defrost, traction control, and fog lights. i will be using the fog lights switch. but, i won't be using the rear defrost as i already have a button that does that in a different location.

heres my idea. use that button for a push button start, just change the color and that kinda thing. might be cool. the only problem is there are five pins on the back of the button, and since i don't have a 99-04 stang, i can't take their plug and figure out what they are. i know it's a weird question, but i was hoping someone can help me identify which pin is the ground, power, etc.

thanks!!

I'm not sure what wire that would be but it sounds like an interesting way to personalize it. I say go for it.

I would hook up a multimeter and just play with the button. That might help you figure out what you've got. That sounds like a really cool idea though.

Okay, from the connector diagram. If you are looking at the connector face, with the clip on the top. C241 is the "name" of the connector if you have the Service DVD sold on eBay.

==== <- Clip
---------
5 6 7 8 <---- Pins 5 - 8
1 2 3 4 <---- Pins 1 - 4
---------

Pins:
1 = PK/LB Voltage supplied IN
2 = BK/YW Rear Defroster switch on/off
3 = Not used
4 = BK Ground
5 = Not Used
6 = BN/LB Rear Defroster Relay
7 = Not Used
8 = LB/RD Illumination

The rear defrost has a timer somewhere, it should be inline with Pin 6.

Hope this helps.
