I have gone through my 87 T-top GT and noticed all these really cheap ass wires running through the car where someone put in the LOL 80 watt amp in the back and a stupid speaker...
I disconnected this speaker and I'm running the fully stock speakers right now....I plan on using the wiring to hook up a nice amp and a pair of 12's in the back ...or maybe not something so extreme
I would like to know what speaker upgrade recommendations ya'll have?
I have the premium sound system with the tweeters in the dash
the speakers in the back are ALOT louder than the speakers in the front....but it's probably because of the cheap old ass head unit in there...
what are the sizes of the speakers?
should I swap out the tweeters?
The stock rear speakers are 6 X 8, you could squeeze 6 X 9's in there but they won't directly bolt in, which is what you want to minimize buzzing and rattling. I use the stock speaker wire, but extended them with a size larger to hook up my 2 10" MTX's. You'd be alright to reuse the factory wire, upgrade when you can later on.
When you say upgrade the speaker, I'm guessing you mean the factory rear speakers? Several manufacturers make direct replacements like Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony, just about anything will be better than the factory paper speakers. As for the front, if you're going all out, upgrade the tweeters too, the same manufacturers make tweeters for it and directly bolt in. You can use this and see what fits your car, I can't remember the front speaker size, I believe they're 5 1/2", just see what fits.
if your looking on running new wire just find where your wire begins and ends, tightly tape the new wire to one end of the old wire and gently pull it through, it might not work as easily as it sounds but if it works at all it will make things alot quicker, its a trick i learned in school when replacing CAT5 Cables.

I really recommend crutchfield.com if you haven't been there already. They've been very helpful with all my needs! According to Crutchfield, your speakers are 6x8 in the rear. I'd personally get all new speakers. I have Infinity Kappas in the rear, Infinity References in the doors, and Blaupunkts in the dash. (If could go back in time, I would have gotten the Infinitys.) The Infinitys are awesome, but the Blaupunkts are only ok. I also added an amp to all of the Infintys, and that made them sound even better.

the rears are 5/7 the doors are 5 1/4 and the dash is 3 1/2. You can fit 6 1/2s in the doors and I really doubt you can fit a 6/9 in the rear, but I have not tried. I have heard that instead of the 3 1/2s in the dash tweeters would sound much better there if you got a component speaker set. I don't know if the 3 1/2s were in there from the factory or if there were tweets in there I have never seen stock speakers in a fox.

When I got my car, the dash speakers were still in there. They had never even been used. But they were 3 1/2s from the factory, or at least in mine they were.
