I have a Mach 460 Sound System installed in my '99 V6. I see alot of people with aftermarket stereos and speakers in their mustangs. Can anyone tell me if the money is worth the difference in replacing my system (3 amps, 2 rear woofers, and 2 tweeters in the door) with say a Alpine headunit and new speakers. Or will the Mach460 I have installed sound better or just as good.

The Mach 460 is plenty of sound for me, it's the best sounding stock system ive heard. But im listening to the car msot the time instead of blasting my radio.

it all depends on the money you want to spend. Alpine is a bit pricy but they have great stuff. just make sure you know what your doing before you start... or you'll end up with a bunch of crap in your trunk that isn't even working

A good set of aftermarket speakers and a aftermarket deck will sound better than your stock 460. How much better depends on what brand\type you buy and the condition of your stock system. Your stock speakers are already 9 years old. When it comes to aftermarket systems the biggest improvements in sound quality come with the addition of a subwoofer because it allows you to remove the bass load from your other speakers. Designating a subwoofer for low frequencies allows your other speaker to reproduce mids-highs loud and clear without interference from bass. This does NOT mean you have to fill your trunk with a huge box, a simple 8" box\tube can be an amazing improvement over stock when done correct. Feel free to PM with any ?s.
