Default 2000 Mustang GT Vert Mach 460 dying door speaker.....now what?

Kinda sad that this is my first post on here since I just got my Mustang a week ago but oh well. Anyway, the drivers side speaker seems to be going out as it crackles all the time and cant handle any bass. Now I don't really know anything about audio equipment so I'm stuck as how to fix it. I was hoping to find a factory replacement or a set of speakers that work with the Mach 460 system. However, I don't know where to find one or what works hence my dilemma. Not to mention I'm a poor college student so anything over $70 is kinda out of my range for awhile

The problem with replacing just one speaker is that the stock ford speakers are 6 ohms and aftermarket speakers are usually 4 ohms. If you replace just the blown one with a 4 ohm aftermarket speaker it will be louder than the rest, and using a 4 ohm speaker could also damage the stock factory amp. The easiest fix would be to find a stock replacement, you can probably find one on e-bay for cheap. Im going to be taking some out of a 04 Mustang later this month, if you are still looking PM me, you can have them for free just pay the shipping.

Yeah i was just looking at some speakers on chrutchfield that were 4 ohms. I didnt realize that they would effect the amp though. I remember reading somewhere that they could only be 2-way speakers or you would have to rewire stuff maybe I read it wrong. I think I'll take you up on your offer though unless someone knows of some better speakers that work with the system.

i'de just take the whole thing out carefully and sell the 460 setup, theres a tone of people on here that always want one. check to seehow much the original option was for the 460 system, drivide that by like half or so and put it up for sale on here in the classifieds, someone will want it,alot of people are looking. That sold, should give you enough money to put some good stuff in your mustang, mabe get like 500 watts of good aftermarket stuff in there, of corse the headunit is going to be the most expensive, unless you go the best buy route and get that insignia head unit for $79.99. I have it, it gets the music through and doesen't sound bad at all really. It has the detachable faceplate.

Your a college student, you can find someone in one of your coarses to help you out in installing some stuff, take them along when you buy your stuff. Don't make the mistake I did in miss-matching all your stuff and messing something up.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll just stick with fixing mine for now till summer comes around then I can work more plus cash my tax return and get myself a nice setup.

yeah thats what im waiting to do. as you probably figured out i messed up some of the stuff i had purchased and i didn't pair it up correctly (not wiring) i had SVC subs that where 4 ohms and an amp that put out 2 ohms that roughly doubles the output... not good.

just to clarify. well...amps will vary on their output depending on the ohm load it sees from the speakers. an amp will run at 4 ohms or 2 ohms depending on the load it sees. if the amp is rated at 300 watts at 4 ohms and 600 watts at 2 ohms, then itll output those numbers at the given ohm resistance. so an amp wont output 2 ohms, just a given amount of watts at 2 ohms of resistance. however, most lower end amps wont handle 2 ohms very well because its less resistance, so more heat is generated at the amp because the sub has lower resistance and draws more current.

ive installed 4 ohm speakers on the mach 460 system before and the amps worked fine....its just a matter of time as to how long itll actually last. i would go with what bigkevo mentioned and go on ebay and pick up a factory one or maybe a set.
