Default Problem with 1987 Mustang lx radio wiring

I have an 87 lx with aftermarket radio and speakers. I have not yet mounted it in my car but plan on doing that this weekend. Every once in a while my cars dash lights will go out because my radio blows a fuse. My radio will still work but not my dash lights. Whats the problem and an easy fix? Its shorting somewhere i think that has to do with my radio or radio wires. I can lift my radio up and the sound coming out of my speakers will lower but the volume will still be turned to the same thing.

That sounds almost like a problem with the head unit too.

yea thats what i thought but i actually think i can fix it i thought about it and I think I know what im going to do. I fixed most or all of the wireing. Some wires were showing so i fixed that. Im going to place the radio in and make it to where it wont move. That and i dont even think the radio is the problem anymore. There is a piece on my instrument cluster that is touching metal on metal. I think thats the problem i will check it friday and tell yall if thats it. Thanks for all the help.
