You have to open the doors and on the very outside of the front speaker grills there's a screw...remove it and CAREFULLY pry the grill out and off.The speakers themselves are secured by 2 screws and you may have to change the connectors on the speaker wires according to what speakers you get. Now the rear speakers.....I believe that the metal under the parcel shelf would have to be cut to get 6x9s to flush mount..... a lot of replacement 6x9 speakers come with grills that hold the speaker off of the mounting surface.....shop around you can probably find some that would do the job.

Kevin, mine is a '90 hatch so the rear speakers are different, but the front are the same......there is only one screw for the front speaker grill.Try a putty knife or a scrape blade to lift the grill up and off after removing the screw that's on the outside of the cover nearest the door(each side)
