Default Aftermarket speakers with Mach 460

I'm sure this has been asked before but couldn't really find the answer here.

Basically my drivers door bottom speaker was blown. So I swapped both sides with a spare I had in my garage Pioneer 250's. At first I was really thinking there wasn't going to be a problem because the 460 is a serious system. So I turned the key on engine off listened to the new speakers and it was bad ass. I mean it was 10x louder with huge deep bass coming from both doors.

I was very pleased but this is where all the trouble begins. As soon as I started driving around the speakers I just installed just seemed to cut out on bass. As I increase the volume the bass cuts down considerably and it's like a back an forth thing with the rear speakers.

I think the culprit here is the Pioneers are just to powerful sucking all the juice out of the factory system.

Is there anyway around this without having to swap back to the factory speakers. I love the new sound but it's very unstable.

From what i understand "The factory woofer(s) in this location receive only bass frequencies from the amplifier. If replaced with aftermarket speaker(s), the aftermarket speaker(s) will only reproduce bass." You can go to Crutchfeild: Car Audio, Home Theater, Speakers, LCD TV, Plasma TV Links and they will answer any questions you might have. Hope this helps.

yes the factory mach460 system is set up as follows...the bottom speakers only produce bass signals...and the upper's produce the mid's and high's...you can not replace w/ a 2way or 3way speaker...you need a sub...like a componet set would work well...you can find 6 1/2 coverter plates for the front..so u can put a 6.5 inch sub in each.

Yea so I understand the bottom only plays woofer sound. So basically it's channeled as a LP.

Ok so even if I were to put a 3way speaker down there it'll work but only bass will come out.

In my case the speakers are to powerful for the amp to handle. Thus why it cuts off the bass periodically?

I'm fine with the speakers I like it because there quite pwerfull and secondly I don't have to buy another set of speakers.

Also I already have an amp can I wire the front bottom woofers from the factory amp to my 400watt amp?

I spoke with a car audio tech he told me that the speaker doesn't suck all the juice out of the amp. It just simply won't hit as hard as it should.

The reason he says the bass goes down is because either it's not getting enough power, a bad amp or bad head unit.

What do you guys think?

oh .. one more thought...sorry...

My 460 system...stock except for pioneer head unit.

The back 6x8's play full range , not much bass....

The front 6x8's have no sound at all...

The front 2.5's play hi's , mid's, and bass if you turn them up like medium-high they distort from the bass....

WTF?!?

Doesn't really sound right to me....

I didn't change the top speakers only woofers drivers and passenger bottom panel.

I didn't realize the aftermarket 3way speakers would have this much affect on the system overall. I have to go back to stock woofer speakers.

I'm not sure if it's a bad amp or lack of power but now the Pioneers are simply cutting out completely "no sound" with volume slightly over half way.

ok im not 100% sure on this but im going off of memory. i believe that the stock woofers are rated at 6 ohms of resistance. the aftermarket speakers are rated at 4 ohms of resistance. basically the less resistance there is, the more power it will pull from the amp. however, the amp can only operate at a certain resistance (in this case 6 ohms) before it overworks itself and overheats....then the bass diminishes and either turns off and goes into protect mode or just burns itself up. so at 4 ohms, there is less resistance, speaker pulls more power from the amp, amp cant handle it, amp overheats and goes bye bye.

this is the most common scenario i see.. you can try to put your factory woofers back in and see if the amp still works, but im guessing that the aftermarkets may have burned it up.

in the mach systems, the deck runs the tweeters and an amp runs the woofers. or in some, an amp runs 2 woofers and another runs the other 2.

whenever you replace the factory head unit with an aftermarket one you have to install a oem amplifier adapter. bought mine from crutchfield for about $40.

Yes the stock speakers are 6 ohms but I have replaced those with 4 ohm aftermarket speakers in other Mustangs Mach systems with no issues. Your amps are definatly shutting off on protection but why? Some amps will shut off when they detect a different resistance for each of the two woofers that are connected. If one amp powers the left side (front & rear) and the other amp powers the right side (front & rear) then the problem may be unbalance speaker resistance. I think this is the case with mach amps. You need four speakers with equil resistance.
