Exclamation Getting preamp from rear deck speakers in my S197?

I'm trying to put an amplifier and subwoofer in my S197, and currently I am a bit confused. All of the similar installs I have seen are getting preamps through the harness going to the door subs and using the Soundgate LOCB.2 to accomplish this. I called Crutchfield and they said it was also possible to get the signal from the rear deck speakers. Are there downsides to doing this? Also the output converter I have is an Install Edge IEC AULOC (The setup is out of my friends Audi that went back on a lease) will that work, or should I get the Soundgate one instead? I looked it up and it is kind of pricey so if it isn't necessary I'd like to find a way around it. One last question, where would be the best place to put the turn on lead?
Thanks in advance.

yeah you can do either. work with what you have, so just tap the rear deck speaker.

I installed an amp in my friends altima about a year ago by getting the signal off the rear speakers. Nothing happened to the sound of the speakers, so I could tell you is to check the connections.
For the sub, turn up the gain on the amp and that should do the trick. Turn your radio up as loud as you can without distortion from the speaker. After its turned up, turn the gain as high as you can untill it distorts. That should solve your problem. Hope this helps, Good luck.

check to see if there are any adjustments on the line out converter. the install edge ones that we have at work are adjustable. make sure theyre turned up. at worst, it could be that the factory radio does not sound low freq. signals to the standard speakers and only use the subs for that. you may need to tap the LOC at the factory amps that power the subs which are located above the driver side kick panel....cant miss em. you can tap those leads there and get a guaranteed signal for your subs.
