Default 1998 Mustang audio wiring

I have had a 98 Mustang, apparently the previous owner had a custom audio system an it seems he simply ripped it out before the sale. I am trying to make sense of what is left over. I plan to buy a new DIN radio, I have one picked out I know that will fit but I want to make sure it will work. I took some pics of the left over wiring, Hopefully some of you can help and point out what is what and what needs to be done to get the audio working.
This is the wiring left from the radio, with the single cd player installed but not working. ImageShack - Hosting :: frontradiowi4.jpg

Here is some wires under the drivers side dash. I have no idea what these are or where they go.

This is in the trunk. I know what two of the wires are, there is a ground and 2 wires (one in upper right) for the rear speakers. They yellow and large black cord go under the backseat, I assume they run up to the front somehow.

It appears that the factory wiring is still intact to install an aftermarket headunit. You just need to get the appropriate adapters to plug into the factory harness. The wires under the dash look like they are for an alarm system that was also removed. the wires in the trunk are for an amplifier or two. The large yellow cables are RCA wires for sending an audio signal from a headunit to the amps. Are there any speakers installed up under the rear deck? If not then its a good bet that there are none in the front either. you may need more than just a new headunit...

There are speakers under the rear deck, but the wires are not connected to anything.
The wires under the dash I'm not sure about, I have a working alarm system that came with the car.

Yup, looks like the original wires are intact. The others were probably for the other unit.
Crutchfield can probably hook you up with the proper harness for your new head unit.

Thanks, I thought i would need an adapter.
How do I connect the two rear speakers? I assume the front speakers from the doors and two tweeters are still connected.

It's hard telling what the other guy did. You will need to locate the wires he pulled off them, they should be close by. Or you may need to start from scratch.

The wires for the two rear speakers are just hanging from them, both black and red, look like they were just cut and left. I'd like to reconnect them into the rest of the radio wiring but have no idea where to begin.

Lets start with tools. What kind of tools do you have? If you're going to get into mobile audio then there are a few tools you're absolutely going to need.

Sta-Kon crimpers for insulated and non-insulated connectors
A good pair of wire strippers, not some Wal-Mart garbage
A pair of needle-nose pliers, you can go cheap on these
An all-in-one (or 10-in-1) screwdriver with philips, flat and star drives

As for material, you'll need some

Butt splice connectors (red and blue)
Female spade terminals (red and blue)
Electrical tape (3M Super 33+ is the best)
6" tie wraps ("zip-ties")

The first thing i'd do is butt-splice the wires coming off those rear deck speakers back together with the ones hanging there. Get a 9-volt battery and go up to the front and find the + and - colors that go to each speaker and 1 speaker at a time touch the + and - of the battery to the + and - wires for the speaker. Listen for a thump or a pop sound as you touch the wires to the battery terminals. If you hear noise coming from the speaker then its good and you can move onto checking the next one.

Most of those tools/materials I have.
Here is what's going on with the rear speaker wire.
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/2...speakerev9.jpg

That's the RR speaker, the LR is similar. The upper left wire goes to the other speaker with the lower right simply hangs down behind the back seat not connected to anything...Where should they be connected?
