Default New Sound System Questions

Hi guys I just have a few questions about switching out some components of my sound system. I'm a complete newbie at this so give it to me slowly.

I checked Best Buy online and found this pioneer stereo that seemed good. A friend has a similar model by pioneer and recommended it. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8679691&type=product&id=11976786 18266
This stereo says it delivers 50 watts over 4 channels or 22 watts RMS x 4. Not really sure what that means... but I'm guessing it has to do with volume. Also on a side note, does anyone know if I'll be able to control my IPOD TOUCH through the stereo?

1. Will 50w be loud enough to be louder than my stock stereo
or do I need an amp.

I'm not ready to drop 300 for a subwoofer yet so I’m going to buy new speakers first. A friend recommended Infinity http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8759042&type=product&id=12026504 63426

2. Should I buy two pairs of this speaker or is it only good for
the rear deck? If so could anyone recommend a pair for the
front (under $150)?

Thank You all very much. If anyone has any extra tips or comments that they think could help I'd appreciate hearing them.

What car do you have?
Check out crutchfield, it's cheaper.

You will need an adapter for the IPOD in order to control it from the radio. Without it, you could still use the IPOD via a usb cable but you would have to change the selections on the IPOD.

I think you can do better with a different Head Unit than this.

I work at Best Buy. Infinitys are a good way to go. With the deck, you will be able to plug your ipod in right away through the USB cable. You won't neccesarly have control through the radio though. You would need to control everything from the ipod most likely. You can always do what I did and buy the pioneer cables to plug directly into your ipod and charge it while controlling everything from the radio. I just leave my ipod in the center console while it charges and I control everything from my pioneer deck.

ps, I love the way they installed it because you do not see any wires. It comes right through the little opening in the middle console to my ipod. Everything looks really clean and people often wonder how I have so much music on my touchscreen deck. haha

If your going to upgrade your speakers I would recommend you get an amp. I think you can do better on the deck. I would get a deck for the things you want it to do now and be able to add to it later like Clarions or Alpines.

Going on what ^^^ said... I would recommend upgrading your door speakers first! I was able to fit the Infinity Kappa 682.7cf 6x8s in my front doors, even though multiple installers said that those speakers would not fit! Although changing the head unit and speakers made a difference, nothing really came alive until I gave my door and deck speakers 100 watts RMS each

Regardless, my aftermarket setup is a huge improvement over stock but there is nothing like the sound of some great component speakers. I will be replacing the Infinity Kappas some time in 2009 and probably going with a DIY component set.
