Default 2006 Mustang V6 Shaker 500 Cd changer problems!

I have had my car for a year and a half and all of my mixed CD's I have been using have never caused me the problem I had the other day. 5 / 6 of the Cd slots were full, and when I inserted CD #6 (a mix) into the slot, the player made 3 loud whirring noises, then stopped. It took my CD, but was still showing no CD was in slot # 6. I then tried to switch to another CD and the message "INITIALIZING" shows up on the display for a few seconds, followed by "CD ERROR." Now, whenever I press any button related to the cd player on the console, "CD ERROR" pops up for a few seconds. Also puzzling..whenever I open my car door, the CD player acts like it is trying to read a CD, even though the car is not on. The warranty just ran out before this problem happened, and I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem, if anyone knows how to remove the CD player and take out the CD's, or if anyone has any idea as to where I could go to get this fixed. Also, the radio works fine.

Thanks,

Marx

There have been many returned shakers for that problem. Bummer it is out of warranty.
Some have just tossed them for a new head unit.

Well, I had the same problem with my CD player, but it was because it was jammed from the labels on my home recorded CD's (of course there are warnings not to play such CD's in the owners handbook... but I didn't read it). Also, when the battery was low... or nearly dead, I had the constant retrying of CD's in each slot. If it were me, I'd take it to Ford and get an estimate to have it fixed, that way at least you'll know what's wrong and if it's worth fixing.... and you've spent nothing. (but some time)

Well what scares me is that someone else on here said that when the CD ERROR message came up, the whole system had to be replaced. With mine though, the radio and the subwoofers in the doors still work, it just refuses to do anything related to CD's, so I don't know why the whole unit would have to be replaced. If I were to replace just the center unit, but leave the subs in the doors, could I hook up a new unit (another brand) to the subs and have them work? None of the Cd's I have played have ever had labels on them..so I don't think that is the problem. I just think it's messed up the that audio system is advertised as "playing mp3's" yet a ton of people burn mp3 cd's and have a hard time having them play, regardless of the cd brand or the program used to burn them.

Any Suggestions?

have you tried to clear the error code in the sterio yet
if not do the following , it could work or not
1 turn on sterio on am or fm
2 press and hold preset #3 and #6 at the same time
( the radio will go into a speaker test mode playing sound at each speaker one at a time)
3 press the #2 preset and it should say dtc codes (that like reading error codes for a check engine light but this is only for the radio)
4 press the eject button for the cd player (this clear the dtc codes)
5 turn off radio (this saves what you did)

like i said it could work or not. after step 2 if you push other buttons(1through6) it will go into other test modes. best of luck hope it works on yours!

i was in the tech sec. looking at tsb from ford and your radio is in there for the prob you have. next time you go into the dealer for say an oil change, mention it to them and tsb. the tsb said to replace and reprogam the head unit ! you still might get a new radio for free if the tsb extends the warranty for it. it never hurts to ask or try i say
