im wanting to upgrade them and get a custom look to them. any ideas or suggestions???

Depends on how custom you want to go. Pioneer and Kicker make 8" shallow mount subs that will fit. I'm currently in the process of switching to a component system with a 6.75 mid in the place of the shaker sub and a tweeter in the door. Will take a bit of custom work, but nothing outrageous.

Like I said, money and degree of difficulty are the only things holding you back on this.
