Default 2006 GT coupe interior rear quarter panel removal

Anyone know how to remove the rear quarter panels? I'm replacing the rear deck speakers, and I'm not sure how to get started. Thanks.

Why do you need to remove the quarter panels? You can get to the rear deck speakers from the top on the 06's
You just pop the top grills off. You can't do that with the 07+ Mustangs though.

After you pop the grilles, there are torx screws that are somewhat of a pain to get at. But if you can get at them with a 90 degree bit.
They are torx, but I manged to get them out with a hex wrench. They come out pretty easy, the holders are just plastic.

I got those rear speakers out. When I was going to put these polks in, with them mounting from the top, there is no rubber gasket on the bottom so it would be metal on metal. Will this make a difference at all with the sound, or anything else? Also, the ones in my front door(same ones Polk db571) still have some distortion. I have turned the bass/treble level way down and the volume as well. Do these new speakers need an amp, or does the shaker 500 put out enough wattage on its own? I've also heard some people talk about 'breaking in' speakers- would this be part of my issue? Sorry to be such a pain, I figured this would be a painless way to get some better sound. Any Ideas on what I could do to correct this, or anything thst can be added to help would be greatly appreciated...

The shaker 500 should have plenty of power for those.
They should not distort unless you are really cranking up the volume.
Do you have the Polarities correct?

I'm not sure what the deal is. I have everything turned way down. Everything is under the midway point, even the volume. Polarity: you mean on the speaker connections, correct? I bought adapters, they're pretty hard to mess up. I've come to the conclusion that I will need an amp, I can't think of anything else, I've tried everything with the radio itself. I found a 4 channel alpine amp that runs 40 x 4 rms. Surely that will do the trick.

I was just reading your post again and that Alpine mrp-f250 is actually the amp I am getting. Any feedback you can offer on this model?

I have that exact amp sitting in my closet waiting until warm weather gets here to install. I replaced the head unit and speakers last Fall (see sig). It could be your head unit is over driving the amps, a problem with the head unit or the amps. You could even have a bad ground somewhere.
Just remember the shakers have the amps in the doors, so make sure you don't hook them up with your new amp.

The factory amps are only on the subs, correct? Those still sound good, and won't be rewired. I checked again and that amp is actually the f450. Thanks again for all the info, I really appreciate it!

That is correct. So you got the 70 watt version, I got the 40 Watt. I got a good deal and couldn't pass it up.

I just checked and they both have been discontinued. It sure doesen't take long.

Yeah, a buddy of mine works at best buy and when they actually were selling these his store was inventory heavy. I got this thing for $90! Just hope it does the job!
