my 2005 mustang gt has a factory 1000w system. i bought the car used and when inspecting the fuse box i noticed the two fuses for the rear 1000w amps where pulled out and just laying in the fuse box. when i reinstalled them i noticed that sometimes when i uses the key fob to unlock/lock/pop the trunk the trunk mounted subs
"thump". i have also noticed that sometimes it will just thump out of no where (when the car is off, key removed from ignition, and all the doors and trunk have to be closed). i call it a random thump because it is very erradic. the closest the intervuls has been where maybe 5 seconds but usualy they are more about a min apart. now i could leave the fuses unplugged but then the system will never operate at full power. im also wondering why there are 2 fuses and only one amp or maybe i was missinformed about the system. i really dont know much about audio and any help would be awsome.
Sounds like your wires have been damaged and shorted somehow. Have you removed and looked around the amps? Obviously it is getting power when it should not have it... Maybe an owner before you put in an aftermarket amp? Maybe it's hardwired to the battery??? I'd for sure start to look around the amp and follow the wires forward....

well i have spent some more time trying to figure out just what triggers the sub inputs. it seems to be directly related to the security system. anytime the key fob comes close enough for the car to recognise it, it will thump. it will also do it sometimes when a button is pressed on the fob. i also noticed something else very strange, when the two fuses are in place you have to turn the volume up higher just to here the music. as soon as they are removed then it returns to its normal state. im going to take a closer look at the box on monday to see if it has ever been tampered with but from the outside and a quick look at the adjacent wires looks like nothing has been touched since it was built.
It sounds like the previous owner had a aftermarket unit in there and swapped it out when he sold it. Like KJ said, you will need to check out all of the wiring.

all good ideas. the car has tons of added electronics. i wouldent be suprised if whoever had the car spliced into something they shouldent have. i dont have any tools at my house so i will have to wait till monday after work but i will keep you guys posted with what i find.
well guys i just spent the last 4 hours looking everything over and going through all the wires and havent come up with anything yet. the subs are stock and the amps are stock. there is no evidence anywhere that there was a different system ever installed. i cant find anything that is damaged or out of place. ive traced all the wires up as far as the firewall and havent found anything yet. im going to take a close look at the wires going the the two sub fuses in the engine bay and if i dont find anything i may be forced to take it to a ford dealer. im really lost on what too look for even. i know any obvious damage but everything looks good as new and all connectors look as clean as can be. there is no evidence that any of the vehicle has ever been apart at any of theis locations. now one thing that does concern me is that a closer look at my glow shift guages shows that they are wired into fuse holes 9 and 13 of the small fuses block by the passangers feet. according to the owners manuel, theis slots are "not uses". i know that this fuse block seems to controll much of the factory head unit. just wondering if this could effect anything?

just for fun, can u guys with the stock shaker 1000 system see is u have a fuse in the #6 place in the main fuse block in the engine bay. i have been messing around with stupid things. just making sure that everything is still the same and i think i may have found the problem. that #6 fuse. it says in the ford owners manuel that that fuse is for the trunk speakers but they are working fine without that fuse in. and when i plug the fuse back in then the car goes back to acting that same with the symptoms i described before.
