Default Replacing Shaker 1000 with aftermarket DVD navigation

Hey guys

I have a 2005 v6 coupe, with a factory installed shaker 1000 system, and i want to change it out with either a pioneer AVIC-Z2 or a Kenwood DNX8210.

So has anyone done this before and can kind of walk me through it step by step?

I have the chilton ford manual, and it looks pretty complex just to access the radio unit. Do i have to take of both the knee bolster and the center trim panel first?

And what kind of harnesses do i need? And dash board kits?

I looked at Chrutchfield and i found this one:
PAC Ford Radio Replacement Interface Allows aftermarket radio installation in select 2005-up Ford-built vehicles (model C2R-FRD1) at Crutchfield.com

Is that the one i need? Do i need to start cutting wires and sold wires together?

You can get that harness but you see how expensive it is. If you get this harness METRA 70 5521 harness it so much cheaper but you have to get 5v regulators when you splice the wires to your subs because if you dont your going to have 12volts going to your subs on power up and you will get a poping noise. You can get 5v regulator from radio shack. you also need a Double Dashboard Kit.

Metra Metra 70-5521 Radio Wiring Harness for Ford 03-Up Amp

eBay Motors: 2001-06 FORD MUSTANG LINCOLN DOUBLE DIN RADIO DASH KIT (item 120378373227 end time Mar-16-09 01:21:55 PDT)

i am not recommending these parts because i dont have them but these are good pictures.

yeah i heard about that you need to get a 5v regulator, and the noise in your speakers when you start up.

But does anyone have like a wiring picture, or something like that how to actually do this? Because i dont even know what cords that goes to each speaker.. i am sure i would find out, but i just want to be sure i dont mess up my system

Thanks, it looks really detailed and exactly what i looked for.
But like he says at the bottom, this is for a shaker 500, and he does not know what might be different from this to a shaker 1000.

Does anyone know if there is a difference, and if so, what it is?

If you go with the AVIC then take a look at AVIC411.com they are a wealth of information. There is also a person on there that sells upgraded hard drives that effectivly changes your Z2 to a Z3. I have this system in my car and love it. I used the crutchfield install kit (without the pac) and followed instructions I found on the AVIC forum and it was pretty easy.

What instructions? i find a lot of articles talking about it, but no one is really a full complete guide. With spreadsheet that shows what wires to sold together

The wiring instructions actually came with the crutchfield packet. I got instructions off of AVIC411 for the video bypass, 5v wiring and the hard drive update.

get a harness that way you can splice the wire together and when you get the center counsel and the old radio out you can simply put in the dash kit and then snap the endings together and you put everything back together. Make sure you pick a spot for the NAV antenna.
