Default What amp should I buy?

Hey everyone,

I'll be ordering two 12" 2-Ohm Pioneer TS-W308D2 Subs and I was wondering what amp you all would recommend. Here are the two choices: Pioneer GM-D7400M or Pioneer GM-D8400M. I would prefer the first one, since it's cheaper, but if the second one it necessary, please let me know. I do not want to sacrifice power or quality of sound over a $60-$70 difference in amp price.

All help is appreciated!

Thank you,
Gotadime

Your two amp links go to the same amp (GM-D7400M)

Thanks for letting me know. It's fixed now.

Any tips on my amp selecting?

My funds would go for the second one. You get a little broader Hz range and 200 more RMS watts for the difference in price.

You may want to look at powered subs with custom enclosures. Crutchfield has some that are designed specifically for the mustangs. Find Car Audio/Video Gear that Fits Your Vehicle at Crutchfield!

Yep, I think that's what I'll be going with. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the tip, but there's no way in hell that I would ever put a pre-built setup in my car. I'm either doing it entirely custom or not at all. No offense, but I can't stand the look of pre-built sub enclosures. They always look out of place and cheap. Nevertheless, thanks for the help.

If you wire the speakers for mono use in series\parallel (Voice coils wired in series, speakers wired in parallel) it will result in a final impedance of 2ohms and can handle a total of 800 watts RMS. The GM-D7400M produces 400w X 1 @2ohms is a perfect match for one woofer. Two GM-D7400Ms would be perfect. The GM-D8400M produces 600w X 1 @2ohms and is a bit too small for both woofers. It will work but is 200w short of reaching the speakers potential. It will sound ok but that amp will have to work its hardest which will shorten its life span.

If you are concerned with sound quality I would suggest looking for a 2 channel amp or using a pair of mono amps so you will have a separate left and right audio signal sent to each woofer. If you use just one mono amp the speakers will have to output the left and right audio signals at the same time and will result in decreased sound quality durring times when the music sends different frequencies over the the left and right channels.

Why Pioneer? JL Audio, Alpine, Kicker, Rockford and MTX all make better amps.

I would suggest to always run bigger amps than the speaker can handle to allow some head room and keep distortion lower. Just don't overdrive the speakers. I have been a DJ for about 15 years and always run around 25% extra amp power over speaker rating. Obviously you just never run the volume to that level.

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep what both of you said in mind. I really appreciate your help.
