Default Aux input gives left channel only audio

Please help...

I installed my sirius radio today, with the tips from other members on hiding the antenna (worked great, antenna is hidden under rear parcel shelf trim, inside car)

Everything is wired up, and seemingly works. I connected the radio to the AUX input in the center console, and get sound, but only on the left channel. When I fade the radio controls to the right, I get no sound.

I confirmed that is isn't the sirius unit doing this - I tried to input sound from a walkman and got the same mono left channel sound.

I checked the cable, and it has the two black collars on the 1/8" pin to indicate the cable is set up for stereo.

I bought this 2008 mustang used. When I went to set this up, I discovered that the fuse for the center console power point was blown, so perhaps the AUX jack is damaged as well.

How can I diagnose this further, and now can I repair it?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

-David

Could be as simple as a bad aux connector. Do you have an ohmeter to check the pins for a short or disconnected wire?

I do have a meter that I think would work. It is a "7 function multi-tester" I got at harbor freight, and haven't even opened it.The meter shows a section for ohms, with positions for 2000k, 200k, 20k, 2000 and 200.

How would I go about testing the aux jack in the console?

Assuming the jack is bad, I saw that a replacement jack from a Ford dealer online is about $90!!!

Assuming we can figure out that it is bad, does anyone know how to remove the jack from the console and replace it? I did not look at the inside part of the jack behind the console when I was wiring up the radio today.

well, I solved my own problem after all!

I reopened the center console to check the wires, and unbelievably, I found that the wires for the right channel to the input had been cut!

I must have cut the wires accidentally when installing the hard wired power supply for the sirius radio. I can't believe I would do something so obvious, but never know!

I spliced the wires back together, and am now all set!

Glad it was an easy fix.
