Default Need help bypassing factory amp in my 1990 lx

I have been told by more than one person that in order for my aftermarket head unit to work in my 1990 lx I have to bypass my factory amp. I was wondering if anybody could help me out with an easy fix? Thanks.

the way i did it was to hard wire the deck in.

i tried getting the plug and play adapters that you get a walmart or similar and plugged it in and had no sound from my powered on deck.

i got out a a volt meter and probed the connecter looking for 12 volts with the key on and power with the key off.

the decks wiring that plugs directly to the back has a red and yellow wire (power and ACC). i cut the old connecter and wired the wire i found with the 12v with key on to the red wire and the one with power at all times to the ACC. that takes care of getting it powered on.

next i just ran some larger gage speaker wire directly to the speakers instead of trying to mess with the factory amp or using those tiny wires to power my new powerful speakers. your deck should tell you what color wires go to what speakers. in my case white and gray were for the fronts and green and purple were for the backs.

it was not hard at all to run the speaker wire. i ran the door speakers through the rubber gromet where the power windows and lock wires go (you can see with the door open) and ran my back speakers under the edge of the rug on both sides.

while doing the wiring it is a good idea to run the remote wire to the back of the car(usually the blue wire at the back of the deck). just incase you want to put a new amp in you already have the wire run.

you're actually pretty close to me im just outside of worcester. i'd be happy to help if need be. send me a PM.

im sure there is a way to bypass the amp but i decided i'd rather have all new wires. came out mint and looks very professional. and was cheap!

What I did with mine was to pull out the amp and all wires leading to the amp. Then continue to follow the wires up into the dash behind the HVAC controls and you will see the standard Ford connectors, one for the speakers and one for the head unit. They were clipped to the dash support on my car, so I unclipped them, pulled them down and connected them to the generic early 90's Ford head unit wiring harness that I got from Walmart.

Okay. I am having a similar issue with getting sound out of my rear speakers. I recently grabbed 4 new speakers for my doors and the rear. I have tested the speakers and i know they are all functional and can put out sound (Used home surround sound system to check them ). But for some reason when I try to connect my rear speakers (havent tried the new fronts yet) i get NO sound out of them.

I am assuming this is the amp problem that was mentioned and if i try to connect my door speakers the same thing will happen. ??? I would rather not run new wires (as I dont have any) so could someone explain a little bit more on what I need to do to get sound out of all 4 of my speakers? Thanks.
