1987 vert with 3 12in subs "help"

i got a 87 mustang 2.3l vert with 3 mtx 4500 thunder and a "junk" pionare 760w from walmart..and a sony headunit.10g amp wire and 10g ground with a 80amp fuse.. when i put the music up the subs kick out does anyone know if this amp has a kickout or something?? i got pics if u wanna see the subs in the car

well, that pioneer amp isnt "junk". dont get me wrong its definately not top of the line, but it will get the job done if youre on a really tight budget. im not sure what impedance youre subs are, but when running three subs youre going to end up with either a 2.66 ohm or 1.33 ohm impedance. neither of which will that amp handle. the amp could be going into protect mode. with that said, you need a different amp to properly power those subs. you need to find out what impedance the subs are wired to put out. then buy an amp accordingly. also, youll definately have to upgrade youre wiring. 10ga isnt nearly big enough to supply any decent sized system. go ahead and run some 4ga or even 0ga so you can have room for an upgrade in the future if you want.

hey thanx dude im doin the 4g and also the "big 3" and the wire to the subs right now is like 12g or higher so im gonna change that out as well to 8g...how do i hook up the wires "amp +,+,+ then amp -,-,-" or amp +,-,+,-,+,- amp or some diff. way??

Here is a diagram to show you how you should wire the subs according to what impedance you need. If you have single 4ohm coils then wire it to 1.34ohms and use an amp that puts out ~1000rms watts @ 1ohm (for a reference of rms power, your 760 watt pioneer only puts out 380rms watts). If you have dual 4ohm coils, then wire to 2.67ohms and use an amp that puts out ~1000rms watts @ 2ohm.
