My recently purchased 97 convertible has a problem. The alarm goes off when I try to start the car after unlocking it.

The only way I have figured out to reset the system is to disconnect the battery when the door is unlocked. After I reconnect the battery, the car starts with no problem.

I had the door lock replaced at a neighborhood lock shop and the problem still exists. I noticed that there is a switch of some sort that is affixed to the back side of the lock. The lock guy did not seem to know much more that what was in his instruction book.

Any suggestions?

I'd try flippin the switch and then getting out and locking/arming the car. Then unlock/disarm it and try it.
