I heard or read somewhere that the MACH 460 could be modded for speed sensitive volume. I drive a convertable. I need the volume loud when running, but it is too loud when at a light.
Anyone know where to get info on this mod? Don't want to change system. Love the MACH 460 just the way it is except for the speed mod.
That's one of the downfalls of a convertible. I don't know anything about the speed sensitive mod and whether they make it or not. I would suggest talking to your local Ford dealership, to see if they've even at least heard of it and if they can tell you where to get it or where to look.

if you have the 6 cd mach 460 as I think you do, the speed sensitive volumne is in the menu options Push the menu button on the lower right corner and go through the list. It should be in you owners manual. If not I can look it up for you and post it.
In response to Giggle Gas, I've heard just about every system out there, my dad owns a car stereo business. Anyway, the Mach 460 is a nice stereo. I don't think we've had any, maybe a few, but not many, people come in to have their Mach 460 system replaced. It's a good deal.

Well, it wasn't in the MENU, but the owners manual did answer the question. Push the volume control for 5 seconds and it pops up on the screen. Should have known that it would be easy. Sometimes pays to read it first , huh.
Thanks hmarv347 for pointing me in the right direction.
Speed sensitivity on the 04 is by pushing in the volumn button until the menu for speed shows on the display. then adjust to a level of about 3-5 and it will reset to the radio station when it is finished. I set mine that way in the mach. I'm not sure if the earlier models have it on the 6 disc or not. Just like the SAT button on the 04 whereas the earlier models don't have that either.
Wouldn't it be nice if speed sensitive volume were available for a pre-2001 mustangs? I noticed that www.mustangworld.com (thanks for the link srsfunk!) has an article on rewiring your cruise on/off buttons to optionally (via a toggle switch) control your radio volume. Pretty ingenious really. It involves opening up your head unit and soldering some wires on then running them out the back of the head unit where they meet the cruise button wiring. How those guys figured out where to solder to I'll never know. But anyway, using the cruise buttons didnt really float my boat, but what if you tapped into your vehicle speed sensor and the headunit as mentioned and interfaced it to a microcontroller like a BASIC stamp? For less than $50 and a few hours spent programming the microcontroller and rewiring the headunit, it could very well be accomplished. Hmmmmm.

I was trying out the Speed control in my 01 and I set it to 5 and it doesn't work, I speed up and it doesn't do anything at all. I come to a complete stop and still...nothing... Does it have to be radio or can it work on cd. If it can work on cd...why is it not working??? And also..if anyone has any idea what the RDS is for, and when you turn it on it has Traffic in the menu also...Please tell me, if you can look it up in your owners manual. Mine didn't have one(bought it used)
As a mechanical engineer and twenty year machine designer I can tell you with certainty that your cruise buttons will not hold up to the increased workload this mod puts on them. They are designed to slightly exceed a certain number of switches before failing and that number will be reached significantly faster when using them for volume controls.
Not do put down mustangworld.com in any way, I love that site! I'm just saying that if you do this mod, you will probably be replacing the switch sooner rather than later. If it's a cheap switch, I guess it's not that big a deal.
