Default Sealed or Ported subwoofer Box??

I have a 10" Kicker L7 and I plan on making my own box for it in the trun of my '99. Should I go with a sealed box or ported? What will the difference be? Thanks

It TOTALLY depends on the dimentions or more importantly the volume of your final design.
Get some plans or measure out and replicate something thats on the market already.
I had a 5th order fully enclosed custom for my 15" in high school that ROX but
I had it built for me, and the guy knew his acoustics.
And it was about 3' x 4' x 2' so it wouldn't fit in the stang.
Size matters less than resonance.

sealed will take up less space where a ported box will need more volume. it also depends what the sub was designed to work with.

The boxes on kickers website are ported but in the manuel it has dimensions for sealed and ported boxes. I want good sound quality but i also want it loud but not overwhelming.

Well IMHO if you want to turn it down and just get a good thump from your rock and roll go Sealed
If you want to shake your trunk lid and anything loose in the dash with nice deep lows go Ported

Follow the dimensions in your manual, it's critical.

Just a word of caution, Kicker's recommendations are for "most" vehicles and don't necessarily work well in ALL vehicles. Using a program like BassBox Pro or WinISD you will see recommendations slightly different than what Kicker recommends.

For example, Bass Box pro recommends that you build your ported enclosure 2.5 ft^3 tuned to 40 Hz. Your F3 will be @ 27 Hz which is pretty low for a single 10" subwoofer.

For sealed, BassBox Pro recommends approximately .8 cubic feet but your F3 will be at 42.15 Hz.

F3 is the -3 db frequency that your enclosure/subwoofer combination will produce on a frequency response plot. Clearly the larger ported enclosure will net you a deeper sub bass response. The down side is the larger ported enclosure will take up a lot of trunk space and add more weight to your vehicle.
