so i bought these subs from someone
and they are each 600 watts max
they are 300 watts rms
i was talking to a guy at best buy and he said i needed a mono channel amp with 600 watts rms because i have 2 amps at 300 rms each
and i really dont know if ohms have to do with anything
the internet says they are dual 4 ohms but does that mean anything?
what my question is
do i have to have a 600 watt rms at 4 ohms
or even better, what kinda of amp should i get.
the subs are made by hifonics, model number is HFi12D4
and they're two 12 inches.
I am not an expert, but I think best buy guy is right. You need 600 watt amp, you dont want to push speakers past the rms. Then you just hook amp up to speakers to match ohms of amp
You say you have two 300w rms amps. Run one sub w/ one amp and the other w/ the other amp. The way I see it, it would be the same as if you bought a 600w rms mono channel amp.
If your subwoofers are dual 4 ohms and you are going with a monoblock, your choices will be a 1 ohm final load, a 4 ohm final load, or a 16 ohm final load. Since High Voltage amplifiers are slim pickings these days, forget the 16 ohm final load and focus on something that gives you 600 watts RMS at 1 ohm or 4 ohms.
Now, if you wanted to wire amplifiers individually to your subwoofers, you could go either 2 or 8 ohms per subwoofer.
Out of curiosity, what two 300 watt RMS amplifiers do you have and are they 2 ohm mono stable? Then again, if they are 150 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms, you may be able wire each subwoofer at 8 ohms and still be getting 300 watts RMS to your subwoofers, depending on what amplifiers you currently own. For some amplifiers, the 8 ohm mono power is the sum of the 4 ohm stereo power.
