Default Adding Subs to Shaker 500?

Does anyone know if you can add subs to the shaker 500 system. I want to put in a set of subs in my trunk with a 1000 watt amp. Will it work with this head unit. I dont want to have to buy a new one quite yet. Also if you have subs in your car what are you running?

Yes you can, there are several ways to do it. The easiest way I found was to get high level inputs from the rear speaker wires running under the rear seat and put them into your amp or a high-to-low converter. The turn on for the amp can run from the fuse box located in the passenger side kick panel, just use a mini ATC fuse tap and fuse #12 I believe.

I'm running a single Alpine Type R off a 1000 watt blaupunkt mono amp.

do I still need to hook it up to the battery? I know in the 2000-2004 the amp had to get its power directily from the battery. Also when you used the speaker rear speaker wires for the subs, do the rear speakers still work.

Yes, you will need a power connection direct from the batter to the amp. You can route the power cable neatly in the engine bay to a firewall grommet just below (or above, can't remember) the steering column assembly. From there, you can run the cable under the door trim to the back seats and into the trunk, hiding the cable the entire way.

And yes, your rear speakers will still work when you tap in to them.

might want to throw that money in a different direction. I have the shaker 500 and find more glaring weaknesses with the mids and highs than the bass. it's ok to good at best and has plenty of room for improvement.

I just dont see more bass helping the sound out, just some .02 from a guy that is very much into sound.

i've done no stereo mods though as of yet (in lieu of doing suspension work)

Well for me, there was no way I was going to get the kind of bass I needed from new mids and highs. There's nothing I love more than some good old double kicker action rumbling your back and a beefy pair of 6"x9"'s aren't going to accomplish that That being said, replacing my rear deck speakers are next on the list of things to do. I think the 8"'s in the doors and the tweaters are respectable enough to stay.
