Hi All,
I have a 1992 LX 5.0 Hatchback with the stock Ford AM/FM digital Dolby cassette deck(*without* the 'Premium Sound' upgrade, think(?), with the 2 6x8's in the rear, 3 1/2"s in the dash, and 5 1/4's(???) in the doors.
I want to replace the head unit, and was wondering if there are any amplifiers in factory wiring circuit that I should be aware of, and what adapters I may need. For now, my choices are the Pioneer/Premier DEH710 or the Alpine 9887 with the Imprint EQ compensation, and the Alpine 'behind the head unit' Power Pack, until I can go for a high-end 4 channel power amp later on,as well as a powered Bazooka tube for the hatchback, running at RCA line level from the head unit, using it's Hi-pass filter/crossover.
I wanted to replace the stock speakers with something in the mid-end, like the Premier matching drop-in coaxials for the whole car, since I want to keep the speaker voicing and imaging similar, it looking completely stock inside.
From my observations, all the speaker locations at least look easy enough to get into, with just a screw each for the front door panels and dash, and the 4 screws for each of the rear speakers. If anyone knows any problems or speaker-depth issues with some popular replacements here, I'd appreciate some info on this.
One thing that puzzles me, is that the fronts have the dash and door speakers on one circuit, and was wondering if those speakers are 8 ohms apiece vs the usual 4 ohms for car speakers, since they are tied together? Just checking if anyone knew this, since the replacements I would think if connected to the factory wiring would equal 2 ohms, unless they have it wired in series for each side?
I know this is alot of pondering at one time, but I'd like to make the install as painless as possible.
Thanks!
