What specs do I need for a headunit?

I have the Mach 460 audio system in my 01 mustang but the laser in the CD player has stopped working so I have been looking around ebay to buy an aftermarket headunit. What specs do I need to make sure it has so it will hook up right?

From what I found I might need a built in crossovers in the headunit.. is that a necessity or not? Also I need to buy a wiring harness and mount kit..
