Default HELP - Stereo/Ignition Electrical Issues SN95

Hey guys,

I have an after market sound system in my 1995 GT. (subwoofer, hi output speakers, capacitor, amps) When the car is in auxillary mode the stereo plays fine and the battery reads fine. When you go to start the car with the stereo on, the ignition wont crank and makes the dead battery "click-click" sound.

If you start the car with the stereo off and keep it off the cars runs great. If you turn on the stereo while the car is already on, the next time you go to start the car you get the dead battery "click-click".

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? It is almost like something is shorting out the ignition. Thanks for any thoughts in advance

Check the stereo wiring and make sure the power wire from the deck isn't connected to the constant wire of the car. Stick a sewing needle through the wire connected to the power wire of the deck and with the key off check for voltage with a test light or voltometer. If you get voltage then that's your problem and it's draining your battery constantly. Keep me updated.

Hey man thanks for the response. The stereo worked fine for a year, then suddenly started doing this out of the blue. Do you still think it could still be the problem?

a bad battery cable was the problem, and it was only apparent while the stereo was on because of the extra strain on the battery.
