i want to get a sub soon and i know a guy who owns an al an ed's so im going to get a great deal and all the free labor and dynamat i need but i want to know what size sub? its a vert. i also want to get a custom box to fix where the spare tire was. is that a good idea? should i dynamat the trunk or will it kill the sub? i need help before i call him to order my parts
sub size depends on your taste in music. 10 inch has pleny of power and is very responsive if you like rock, hard rock, or heavy metal music. 12 inch can produce the lows in rap music but is less responsive in rock. whether the box is ported or sealed makes a difference as well. the ported boxes are usually tuned to be loudest at a specific frequency. ported boxes are louder in general as well, more boom for your buck. sealed boxes tend to respond better overall and are not tuned. having trapped air inside the sealed box provides a cushion for the sub which can make it last longer and handle more power. dynamat is a great thing, it will keep the noise inside the car instead of letting it out and set off car alarms.
hey man i can help you out with your system and also have a ported box that will fit your trunk. also you doing any electrical upgrades ie big 3? i can do that for you also free of cost as long as you have the wires
also budget on sub and goals? my box=1ft^3@33hz for a 10" sub so if you would want my box you need a 10" sub with a cutout diameter of 9.25" and also would need to model well in the box. also what amp to power the sub?
well im getting a sub and amp from my friend. hes not sure about the box yet though. ill talk to him and keep you posted as i go. i probably wont be for a week or so more
well i decided against the custom box, so now my question is where is the best spot to put the sub box? how can i wount it so it wont slide around inside the trunk?
i havent decided weither its going to be ported or sealed yet, which will give me the best sound?
ported box will get louder, and sound as good as a sealed box. sealed box's can drop alot lower. they can play well down to 20hz or so with authority with your sub. but it depends on the sub also. alot of subs model very well in sealed boxes and some dont at all.
